Assistant Professor of Nursing

Position Summary
This is a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. The position is a 10-month appointment in the Department of Nursing, reporting to the Director of Nursing. Excellence in teaching, advising, program coordination, and recruitment is expected. Continued professional development, participation in academic governance, and professional, university and community service are all factored into tenure decisions.

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach 24-28 credit hours per year in nursing.
  • Serve as liaison between adjunct faculty and campus/program faculty by participation in faculty activities.
  • Coordinate practicum and capstone projects for the nursing program.
  • Assist in marketing and recruitment initiatives and support program growth strategies.
  • Act as academic advisor throughout the major and evaluate transfer work for appropriate program credit.
  • Utilize instructional technology such as an online learning management system to facilitate instruction.
  • Responsible for coordination of select nursing program courses, including course development, management and evaluation.
  • Conduct orientation, planning and evaluation meetings for assigned courses.
  • Assist in orientation of adjunct faculty, including use of online technology.
  • Maintain knowledge of and usage of Blackboard and other appropriate informational technology.
  • Participate in curriculum design, review, and course development.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development appropriate to teaching assignments and licensure/accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in program assessment research.
  • Teach at campus and other locations when necessary.
  • Participate in and support a shared governance process at both the department and college levels.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Other Responsibilities

  • Up to 25% travel time expected with:

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a master's degree in nursing is required.
  • Experience teaching adult students preferred.

  • Ability to function with minimal direct supervision to attain expected program goals.
  • Familiarity with the usage of educational technology, including online learning management systems.

Assistant Professor of English / Director of the Writing Program

Starting Date:  August 2024

Southwestern College is seeking a tenure-track assistant professor of English/Composition, beginning in August 2024. This position will primarily involve teaching in the freshman writing program.  The customary load is 4 courses per semester.  The successful candidate will participate in faculty governance and carry an advising load. Other duties in service to the campus and the community may be required at the request of the division chair.

As the Director of the Writing program, the candidate will oversee the curriculum design and assessment of the writing classes, support the Success Center to recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate the writing tutors, as well as collaborate with the writing instructors to align student learning outcomes and curriculum.

The English department at Southwestern College offers degrees for students interested in graduate study, employment in a variety of careers requiring strong critical thinking and communication skills, employment in the realm of creative writing, professional writing, and content creation, and employment as a secondary educator.  In addition, we provide robust support for our general education curriculum by managing the college’s freshman writing program and providing courses in the humanities and the arts.

Qualifications

  • PhD or MFA is preferred in English, Composition & Rhetoric, or Creative Writing.  Master’s degree in English or related subject is required

Assistant Professor of Accounting

Starting Date:  August 2024

Position Description
The Business Division at Southwestern College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.  The Business Division offers a collegial environment, a robust undergraduate curriculum in a student-centered environment serving a diverse student population, and an on-campus accelerated MBA program.

The Division of Business houses BA, BS, and MBA programs.  This position teaches a variety of courses which may include Principles of Financial Accounting, Principles of Managerial Accounting, Cost Accounting, Tax Accounting, Intermediate Accounting I and II; Advanced Accounting; Auditing; Accounting/Financial Information Systems; Not-for-Profit Accounting; and MBA-level Financial and Managerial.  Co-curricular duties may include advising students, serving on faculty committees, and other division activities.  Specific course and co-curricular assignments depend on credentials and area of expertise. 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teaching load is 4 courses per semester (12 semester hours) in undergraduate accounting and/or business courses and MBA-level accounting courses

Qualifications

  • Masters degree required in accounting/tax or a business-related field (If the Masters is in a business-related field, the undergraduate degree must be in accounting.) Applicants nearing completion (within 12 semester hours) of the Masters degree will be considered.
  • Professional accounting certification required (C.P.A., C.M.A., C.I.A., C.F.E, etc.)
  • Demonstrated potential for teaching excellence
  • Demonstrated skill in the use of technology in accounting including computerized accounting software, Excel/ spreadsheet programs, and other office productivity applications
  • A minimum of three years of professional accounting experience
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Interest in living in southern scenic Kansas

Assistant Professor of Communication

Starting Date:  August 2024

Position Description
Southwestern College is seeking an Assistant Professor of Communication for a full-time, tenure-track position to begin in August 2024. Southwestern College is a student-centered undergraduate teaching institution that values engaging students in classroom learning experiences, supervised research, and mentoring.

Southwestern Communication students grow to be influential communicators ready to embark on their chosen career path or graduate studies. The program balances communication and media studies with fundamental skills for working in media environments such as public relations, social media management, advertising, and content strategy.

The division of Creative Technologies and Communication seeks a digital content generalist with the ability to teach classes such as: Digital Storytelling, Social Media Practice and Theory, Media Studies, Media Writing, and audio/video production-oriented courses. 

The Creative Technologies and Communication division at Southwestern College is an interdisciplinary program that equips students with the knowledge to explore the intersection of various digital media forms, including motion graphics, digital storytelling, sound design, game development, and more. Students engage in hands-on projects, collaborate with peers, and connect with the community. Through a combination of theoretical frameworks, technical training and creative expression, the Creative Technologies and Communication program prepares students for careers in the rapidly evolving fields of digital media, communication, computer science, and English.

Please see our program’s course descriptions for other potential courses related to digital content and media. The successful candidate will also serve as the Director of Student Media, creating branded content and organizing students to produce audio/video for campus events such as musicals, plays, and ceremonies.

Administrator and Staff Positions

 

Registrar

The Registrar provides leadership to plan, organize, and manage all of the activities related to the Registrar’s Office, including transfer credit evaluation, degree audit, the application of academic policies, and ensuring the integrity and privacy of student records. The Registrar collaborates on Student Information System (SIS) improvement projects and generates required and ad hoc reports for internal and external constituents, among other duties.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Academic Policy/Regulations

  • Ensure adherence to the general rules, regulations and policies of the college. As needed, recommends policy revision
  • Ensures compliance with external standards as set by accrediting and licensing organizations, state and Federal agencies and other regulatory entities
  • Distributes student information to students, advisors, faculty and staff in an efficient, accurate manner while maintaining the confidentiality of all student information in accordance with FERPA and other laws

Academic Records

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that ensure the integrity of academic records
  • Develops and manages all academic record-related setups in PowerCampus, including student academic plans, course setups, and academic calendar.
  • Conducts transfer credit evaluation, graduation processing and graduation clearances (degree audits).
  • Manages and monitors the Main Campus registration process, scheduling of courses and classrooms, and grade processing functions; works closely with SC Global staff to ensure accurate and efficient administration of these functions within the online learning environment
  • Certifies eligibility of student-athletes for continued participation in NAIA athletics
  • Counsels students/faculty regarding degree and major requirements

Supervision

  • Manages all office functions as they relate to all office programs (Main Campus, SC Global, international)
  • Facilitates the College’s Commencement-related activities
  • Reviews, revises and designs policies and procedures to ensure efficient processing and accuracy of data and to meet academic calendar deadlines
  • Coaches and supervises other staff members

Reporting

  • Generates required and ad-hoc reports for faculty, staff, and students
  • Generates and submits monthly enrollment reports to the National Student Clearinghouse
  • Compiles statistical information, and prepares and validates internal, state, and federal reports in collaboration with Institutional Research.
  • Works with Institutional Research in the completion of special projects.

Other

  • Identifies best practices and effective use of technology to implement business process improvements
  • Develops in collaboration with various departments the Main Campus academic catalog and academic calendar
  • Participates as assigned on committees (e.g., Student Tracker Group, curriculum and academic affairs committees (ex-officio status), and any other committee related to academic affairs work)

Administrative Assistant for Athletics

This position serves as administrative assistant to the Director of Athletics and as a facilitator for the SC Athletic Office in communicating information, problem-solving, material acquisition, cash handling, record keeping, and building usage. Handles daily work pressures, requiring constant concentration on a volume of work that must be completed within a limited period of time. This is a full-time, 12-month non-exempt position. 

Primary Duties

The general responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant include, but are not limited to:

  • General telephone responsibilities, answering questions, directing calls to athletic/staff members and other SC departments
  • Mail pickup, delivery, and distribution.
  • Preparing documents as directed by Athletic Director
  • Training on the Business Portal to process all of the athletic department PO's and check requests
  • Requests purchase orders and bill payments for department (approx 25 - 50 purchase orders weekly). Maintains file copies of all check requests, invoices, and deposits.
  • Tracks budget information by sport
  • Pulls various information as requested to populate end-of-semester reports and evaluations
  • Prepares Letters of Intent (scholarship awards) and notifies Admission and Financial Aid departments of students receiving a scholarship and in what amount
  • Prepares game contracts, sends them to opponents, and maintains file copies
  • Assists with travel arrangements 
  • Coordinates facility usage and rental with various groups (contracts and collects usage fees)
  • Coordinates and orders supplies needed for golf tournaments, department functions, reunions, and  assists with homecoming needs
  • Assists with the Athletic Hall of Fame, sending letters to members, inductees and family members
  • Responsible for tracking and depositing large sums of money for various events
  • Orders nameplates and special awards; prepares award certificates for student-athletes
  • Tracks student-athlete awards and honors
  • Prepares lifetime passes and letters for graduating athletes
  • Keeps filing and informational materials up to date
  • Coordinates all athletic department meetings
  • Purchases and orders supplies for the department
  • Assists with mass mailing to community, parents and student-athletes
  • Assists coaches with banquets, parent's/foster parent's night and senior night; orders flowers and supplies as needed.
  • Responsible for care and feeding of Jinx. Duties include feeding, cleaning litter box, purchasing supplies and food, and trips to the vet's office
  • Additional duties as requested by the Athletic Director

Calendar/ Scheduling Duties

  • Calendar Review Council Member, which meets monthly to ensure that all campus events run  smoothly and without complications
  • Records all athletic events on SC campus calendar (includes scheduling of all athletic  facilities being used for various campus-wide and community events)
  • Prepares and updates schedules for each sport as needed
  • Submits schedules to the KCAC Supervisor of Officials and JV Official Supervisor for assignment of game officials, keeping them advised of any schedule changes
  • Keeps maintenance department advised of athletic calendar, including schedule changes so rooms/building will be unlocked/locked for use
  • Schedules meetings for Athletic Director and Athletic Department
  • Assists Athletic Director with scheduling of tennis courts, WPE Building, Stewart Field House,  SC weight room and Richard L. Jantz Stadium

Ticket Manager Duties

  • Coordinates ticket takers and program sellers for home athletic contests; includes being responsible for start-up cash, keeping correct change needed for each game, and depositing gate income with the Business Office
  • Prepares (typing and cutting out) tickets for volleyball, non-conference basketball games, and KCAC tournament games that are hosted by SC.
  • Prepares programs for home athletic events
  • Requests money necessary for ticket sales. Keeps account balanced and tracks gate income.
  • Responsible for pass gate list and providing comp tickets for family and friends of student-athletes and  various groups/organizations requesting complimentary admission to home athletic contests
  • Mails out information regarding reserved seating for football, volleyball, and basketball contests. Assists Athletic Director regarding seating chart. Orders names for backs of seats, removes old and applies new member names to seats. Sends thank you letters, membership cards and parking permits to those who purchase reserved seating.

Booster Club Duties

  • Sends out mailing to Winfield and Arkansas City communities regarding window schedule advertising
  • Sends out invoices, thank you letters, and receipts to those who advertise
  • Sends out information regarding booster club golf scramble.
  • Maintains booster club banking account including invoicing, bill payment, making deposits, and reconciliation of account.

Student Eligibility Duties

  • Provides Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) with student list and information so they can obtain academic records necessary for student-athlete eligibility.  Occasionally assists FAR with looking up necessary information in PowerCampus(self-service).
  • Enters all information into eligibility certification database, which produces Freshman Eligibility Certificate, Eligibility Certificate, and Certificate of Clearance reports. Schedules times for FAR to meet with transfer student-athletes to certify that transfers are eligible for competition in the KCAC. Verifies that information has been entered correctly, obtains signatures from Coach, Registrar, Athletic Director and Faculty Athletic Representative and mails before deadline date to KCAC Eligibility Chair.
  • Prepares participation lists on each sport and sends report to KCAC Eligibility Chairprior to deadline
  • Uses eligibility information to enter data into PowerCampus system for annual NAIA Institutional Financial Aid report.
  • Prepares and mails (or faxes) transfer notifications to other colleges and universities.

Work Study/Campus Employment Duties

  • Supervises one office position
  • Provides time sheets for student workers and tracks hours worked weekly
  • Approves time cards using employee self-service portal

Admissions Representative           

Job Summary
The primary role of this position is to recruit prospective students for enrollment, working with students through all stages of the admissions process.  This position reports to the Director of Admissions and is a 12-month, full-time, exempt position.  

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Outreach and Recruitment to include:

  • Recruit within an assigned territory and meet the established recruitment goals.
  • Respond quickly and effectively via email, phone calls, text messages, and other communication methods to connect with prospective students.
  • Develop relationships with prospective students while serving as a personal point of contact through the entire admissions process including: application, transcripts, and financial aid. 
  • Work in tandem with the faculty, staff, and administration to maximize recruitment efforts.
  • Utilize all recruitment technology devoted to organizing and holding student data for the purposes of interdepartmental communication and strategic recruitment. 
  • Participate in all on-campus recruiting and scholarship events including some evening and weekend events and travel.
  • Display a professional attitude and presence in all aspects of the job.

Travel to include:

  • Work with the Director of Admission and the Vice President for Enrollment Management to determine travel plans for recruitment.

The Program Director will be a visionary leader in the field of Physician Assistant and bring a commitment to serving our community and region.  Open rank, this leadership position will work closely with the faculty and academic affairs to offer a widely respected M.S. program in Physician Assistant.  The Program Director will be responsible for the recruitment of academically prepared students who can thrive in a rigorous graduate program, effective day-to-day communication, interprofessional collaboration, curriculum development including clinical rotations, program assessment and planning, fiscal management, and evaluation of faculty. The candidate will serve to develop and implement the strategic plan and will provide guidance and oversight through the ongoing accreditation process. This position reports to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs and works closely with all departments and offices on campus to ensure student and program success. Collaboration with Marketing and Admissions will be key to strengthening the College’s market position, attracting prospective students through innovative programs, and increasing the enrollment of talented and motivated students.   

Qualifications

  1. Licensed as a physician assistant within the state of Kansas.
  2. At least three years of full-time higher education experience at the time of appointment.
  3. Master's degree in physician assistant with current NCCPA certification.
  4. Proven leadership ability in the field of physician assistant studies.
  5. Knowledge of the physician assistant program accreditation process and familiarity with the details of experiential education and site establishment within the healthcare community.
  6. Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and fostering empirical research.
  7. Visionary and interpersonal skills to build partnerships inside and outside the program in physician assistant, the College, and the wider community.

Associate Development Officer

Job Summary
The Associate Development Officer (ADO) is responsible for the qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors supporting the Builder Fund as well as major gift prospects at the $10,000 + level.  As part of the major gifts team, the ADO will report to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. The ADO will provide strategic assistance to the Advancement team, President, and senior members of the administration as an essential function of this position.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a portfolio of 120-150 planned and major gift prospects/donors with a goal to increase the number of major gifts.
  • Conduct at least 10-15 face-to-face visits with donors and prospects per month (extensive travel required).
  • Serve as a key member of the fundraising team and actively participate in developing strategies to achieve overall fundraising goals for financial support and alumni participation.
  • Work closely with members of the SC administration, faculty, and staff to guide the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major donor relationships.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement for major and planned giving proposal approval and development of gift agreements.
  • Collaborate with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement to prepare proposals and illustrations of life income and estate gift arrangements.
  • Work closely with colleagues in the Office of Marketing and Communications to increase awareness of major, planned, and leadership annual gifts through press releases and feature stories in the Southwesterner magazine, the College website, social media, and print publications.
  • ADO will maintain professional affiliations and continue to enhance his/her knowledge in the development and alumni relations field by keeping abreast of the latest information and trends in major gift fundraising, including deferred giving techniques, estate planning and tax laws.
  • Propose and develop regional events that are integrated with major gift efforts.

  • 2-3 years experience in development, sales, marketing, customer service, or relationship building related fields.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of Southwestern College is valued.

Pitching/Baseball Assistant Coach

Role
This full-time position will be involved in all aspects of the Southwestern College Baseball program including: recruiting, working with the admission staff, developing and coaching pitchers, scouting reports, fundraising, practice and game management, working camps, organizing and monitoring community service projects, assisting with monitoring academic student progress, organizing team travel arrangements, and creating and maintaining all office processes.

Major Duties & Responsibilities

  • 55% Develop players (pitching), organize and assist team field maintenance efforts, game management during competition, organize team travel, oversee JV competitions.
  • 35% Recruit and work with Admission staff, develop scouting reports, oversee academic standing reports and activities, study halls and all other operational tasks assigned.
  • 10% Participate in community, campus events and office work, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position may require minimal oversight of Graduate Assistants

Attendance
Required to attend all practices, games, team and campus functions as directed by the Head Baseball coach.

Expectations

  • Must be willing to comply with the rules of the NAIA and their regulations.
  • Must have operational organizational skills to maintain required operational processes.
  • Valid Driving License
  • The ability to maintain confidential information in a professional manner is required.

Knowledge & Skills

Experience:
Must have 1-2 years’ experience as an assistant pitching coach.  Recruiting experience desired. Player experience would be beneficial.

Education:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.

Interpersonal Skills:
Requires good and effective communication skills both to co-workers and players.

Other Skills:
Knowledge of technical skills with computers and analytics in helping development.

Public Safety Officer (Full-Time/Part-Time)

Basic Function
To ensure the safety and security of all persons and property on the Southwestern College campus.

Perform the duties and responsibilities of this role at all times in a fashion that supports the College’s commitment to creating an inclusive college of academic excellence where a variety of people and perspectives are welcome, and to providing an environment where people from all races, ethnicities, national origins, genders, sexual orientations and backgrounds may succeed.

Shifts will vary. Successful candidate will be available for all shifts, including many nights and weekends. Hourly rate $10.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understands and follows all campus security, safety and emergency procedures.
  • Maintains familiarity and positive working relationships with all members of the campus community.
  • Works closely with Student Affairs (Dean of Students, Assistant/Associate Dean, Hall Directors, Resident Assistants) to respond to student incidents and emergencies.
  • Notifies Director of Safety & Security and Student Affairs administrators on emergency situations as needed.
  • Maintains positive working relationships with all emergency services to include police, fire and EMS.
  • On-scene liaison between the city/county emergency services.
  • Reviews, understands, and passes on any information pertinent to departmental daily operations via the General Information Shift Log.
  • Responds to all calls for service and emergencies (medical & fire), provides escorts, and responsible for the locking and unlocking of buildings in a timely manner. 
  • Provides regular foot patrols of the interior and exterior of campus buildings and monitors the campus grounds and roadways. Makes mobile patrols of the campus (ie: golf cart, security vehicle) as needed.
  • Responsible for the completion of all incident reports and/or any written information pertaining to events that occur during shift.
  • Monitors all parking areas and enforces traffic and parking regulations as needed.
  • Enforces Southwestern College rules and regulations.
  • Reports security, safety, health and fire hazard issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Participates in Safety and Security/Student Affairs training on procedure, protocol and response to incidents.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Director of  Safety and Security.

Minimum Qualifications
Position requires a high school diploma or GED. A valid driver’s license with a good driving record, and being able to pass a background check. Position requires excellent interpersonal, customer service and written and oral communication skills. Must be available to work a flexible schedule.

Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to those with a college degree in a related field. Experience in college or university campus security preferred.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who also demonstrate success in recruiting, retaining, mentoring and / or actively engaging with under-represented and underserved populations both in the workplace and in the broader community.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically fit as work requires walking, climbing stairs and working in varying weather conditions, etc.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs. unassisted
