MINOT, N.D. (KMOT) – UPDATE (2/29/2024): Minot State University provided a statement to Your News Leader, following the resignation of Greggmar Swift as track and field coach Tuesday.

The statement from Acting Athletic Director Kevin Harmon indicates that Swift resigned following an external investigation.

Here is the full statement from Harmon:

Last fall, President Steven Shirley requested an external investigation of various allegations in the MSU Athletics Department. The initial investigative report was released in early January. In this report, allegations regarding head track and field coach Greggmar Swift were brought forward and were subsequently investigated by a separate external investigator. Shortly after completion of the investigation, Mr. Swift offered his resignation from MSU. Steven Schultz, current head cross country coach, will act as the interim head coach for the remainder of the outdoor season.

Over the past several weeks, we have worked hard to demonstrate our commitment to student-athletes, each other, the university, and the community. Since being named interim AD in January, the athletic department staff and I have worked to move the department forward in a respectful manner. Our vision has not changed as we want to provide our student-athletes with an outstanding experience in athletic competition and in the classroom. I have asked all personnel to continue being teachers and leaders and keep our student-athletes as the main focus. Our core principles are to treat others with respect, communicate openly, and be open to a culture of continuous learning.

Swift, a former Olympian, had served as men’s and women’s track and field head coach since Aug. 2022.

Swift’s departure comes following the resignation of Kevin Forde as Minot State Athletics Director in January.

Your News Leader reached out to Swift for comment. We also reached out to Forde who said he would make himself available for comment at a later time.
