Keating named Field Hockey Head Coach

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith Athletics Department is excited to announce Sam Keating as the next Head Coach of the Avenging Angels Field Hockey Program. Keating was hired as the Field Hockey Assistant Coach in August of 2022 and has now been promoted to Head Coach.

Keating played at York College of Pennsylvania from 2016-2020, where she was recognized as a scholar of distinction. Throughout her career in the York program, she finished in the top 5 in program history for goals-against average (1.72) and shutouts (7). In 2021, after multiple CAC Defensive Player of the Week honors and a Synapse Sports Division III Defensive Player of the Week acknowledgment, she achieved a top 10 ranking for career saves which earned her a place on the program's All-Decade team.

Sam began her coaching career in high school, offering private lessons to goalkeepers before joining the Atlantic Storm Chasers Field Hockey Club. Since then she has coached for an additional two clubs across Pennsylvania and Maryland.

After graduating from College, she was the assistant coach at West York High School in York, PA in 2020 before accepting an offer as the assistant coach at St. Mary's College of Maryland. After a successful season and earning Coaching Staff of the Year accolades she was excited for the opportunity to join the Meredith staff and the growth of their program. Now she finds herself in full control of the Angels.

"I am beyond excited and honored to receive this position," Keating said. "The opportunity to give back to this sport and its athletes, who have given me so much, has me speechless. I am grateful to Meredith and its community for their support and belief in me to lead this program. We all come to Meredith to grow and embrace our strengths; I know that's exactly what our program will do. This team is capable of greatness and I can't wait to begin our next chapter. Go Avenging Angels!"
