Greiner To Step Down As Head Coach At Season's End

MOORHEAD, Minn. (2/06/23)---Maureen Greiner announced that she will be stepping down as head coach of the Concordia women's hockey and golf programs at the end of the current hockey season.

"Working in Cobber Athletics has been the most joyful and fulfilling professional experience of my life," Greiner said. "I am so grateful to Cobber Athletic Director, Rachel Bergeson, for giving me this opportunity, as well as for being an amazing mentor and friend to me and my family. I have loved my time as a Cobber and am such a better person because of it. The friends, relationships, and memories I've gained along the way with colleagues, students, families, competitors and so many others, will be cherished forever."

Greiner is currently in her fifth season as head coach of the women's hockey team, and recently completed her third year as coach of the Cobber women's golf team. She has guided Concordia to 35 overall wins during her tenure as head coach of the hockey program. Greiner also has 20 conference victories during that time.

"I want to express my appreciation to Mo (Greiner) for her contributions to Concordia during her time as a Cobber," Bergeson said. "I wish her all the best."

Greiner took over as head coach for the Cobber women's golf program in 2020, and guided the team through the Covid-19 season. She then helped the team post Top 10 finishes in both the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

"I am looking forward to spending more time with my husband and two young boys," Greiner added. I would like to acknowledge and thank them for their unwavering love and constant support of me and my passion for coaching. I would also like to thank all my current and former players for their hard work and dedication. Getting to be a part of their lives and bearing witness to their growth as athletes, but more importantly- as people, has been beyond rewarding and given me so much joy."

Bergeson said that the search for Greiner's replacement in hockey will start at the conclusion of the current season, while work on an interim plan for golf is underway.
