Coby Mackin shifts roles to Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Academics

OKLAHOMA CITY –  Coby Mackin makes the move to Associate AD for Compliance and Academics after spending a year as the assistant athletic director for internal affairs.

OCU associate AD Coby Mackin will be shifting roles in the Oklahoma City athletic department going from the assistant athletics director for internal affairs to taking over the role of Associate Athletics Director for Compliance and Academics while also acting as the Senior Women's Leader for the department.

In her role, Mackin will provide leadership and guidance to ensure university adheres to all NAIA and SAC rules and regulations, oversee eligibility certification process, consult on departmental strategic planning and budgeting processes, advocate for student-athlete well-being, and serve as a resource to coaches and student-athletes to promote excellence in competition and in the classroom. Mackin will continue to remain in her role of the director of internal affairs until a replacement is found.

"Coby Mackin has made a tremendous impact on the OCU athletics department during her first year with the university" Oklahoma City Athletic Director Corey Bray says. "Her background as a college softball coach and athletics director has served her well in her previous role in our department and that experience will continue to serve her well while she assists our student-athletes and coaches in the areas of compliance, academics, and sport administration.  Please join me in congratulating Coby on this well-deserved promotion."

Before arriving at OCU, Mackin most recently served in the business office at Bayside Academy in Daphne, Ala., where she had also been the associate athletics director. She owned and operated a facility for training athletes, The Fieldhouse.

"I am honored to serve as OCU's Associate Athletic Director for Academics and Compliance / Senior Women's Leader and the opportunity it provides to combine my 30+ years of experience as a student-athlete, coach, and administrator in a leadership role for the athletic department" said Mackin. "This role allows me to work more directly with our student-athletes to help ensure their well-being and academic success, as well as contributing to the strategic initiatives of the department.  I look forward to being a mentor and resource for student-athletes, staff, and faculty as we all facilitate the development of our future leaders."

Mackin coached softball at South Alabama and Spring Hill (Ala.). At Spring Hill, she became director of athletics in addition to her head-coaching duties. Mackin was the first coach of the Spring Hill softball program and brings more than 20 years of experience in athletic administration, business management and coaching.

During her collegiate playing career, Mackin was a four-year letter winner and was a member of four squads that advanced to the NAIA Championships at the University of Mobile (Ala.).  She became a three-time NAIA scholar-athlete and first-team all-American in 1996.

After graduation, Mackin spent one season playing professionally in the Women's Professional Fastpitch Association.

Mackin, a Houston native, graduated from Mobile with a bachelor's degree in communication and Spanish in 1996.  She is married to Lee Mackin and has two children (Marlee and Luke).
