BOSTON, MA- Vice Chancellor for Athletics and Recreation Dr. Jacqueline Schuman has announced the appointment of Malcolm Neville as the Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

"Malcolm's extensive background at the Division III level as a player, assistant coach, and head coach made him the ideal candidate to lead our programs. During the search process, it was evident that Malcolm cares deeply about the student-athletes in his program and their athletic and academic experience. I cannot wait to see the new levels of success he takes our programs to." 

"I want to thank the entire search committee and Dr. Schuman for entrusting me to lead the Men's and Women's Tennis programs at UMass Boston," said Neville. "My college experience was exceptional because of my time practicing and competing with my teammates and the atmosphere my coaches created around our program. I cannot wait to create the same atmosphere here at UMass Boston."  

Neville comes to the harbor campus after most recently serving as a Site Director and Lead Racquet Coordinator at Tenacity of Boston. At Tenacity, Neville led an academy site where he supervised staff and fellows, recruited students, and developed and implemented training programs to maximize their success.  

Neville's college coaching career began in 2016 when he was named the Head Women's Tennis Coach at Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA. While at Anna Maria, Neville managed the day-to-day operation of the NCAA Division III program by recruiting high-level talent, managing assistant coaches, coordinating the game schedule and budget, and monitoring the academic progress of team members.  

Following Anna Maria, Neville spent three years on the staff at Curry College (Milton, MA), serving as the Assistant Coach for both the men's and women's programs. While working with both programs at Curry, Neville was an active recruiter, scheduled and conducted practice sessions, and managed the program's budget. 

Neville made one more coaching stop before joining the Beacons. Most recently, he served as the Assistant Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach at Emerson College (Boston, MA) during the 2021-2022 season. 

"UMass Boston has always had a particularly unique brand of competitive excellence in its tennis programs. When I played against the Beacons as a student-athlete and coached against them while working at other schools, the teams always carried themselves with pride and fought tooth and nail for every point. I am eager to lead these programs and continue the legacy of success."   

Neville began his collegiate playing career at Thomas College (Waterville, ME), where he was selected as a Second Team All-North Athletic Conference singles player in his first year. After one year at Thomas, Neville transferred to UMass Dartmouth (UMD), where he was a member of the tennis program for three years. At UMD, he was recognized as a First-Team All-LEC singles player in 2015 and an All-LEC Second-Team selection as a doubles player in 2014 and 2015.  

Neville holds a B.A. in Leadership Management from UMass Dartmouth and will begin his new role on March 11.
