Fort Wayne to ‘Paint the Town Blue’ for NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship week

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship week kicks off Monday and some popular local companies plan to “Paint the Town Blue” to celebrate.

Eight well-known Fort Wayne structures and facilities plan to showcase “NCAA blue” exterior lights from March 11-16 in honor of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Semifinals and Championship games being held in Fort Wayne.

The structures/facilities slated to participate in this celebration include:

  • Lincoln Tower
  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Bridge
  • Rousseau Centre
  • Turnstone Digital Board
  • Parkview Field Digital Board
  • Parkview Physicians Group ArtsLab
  • Fort Wayne Visitors Center
  • Memorial Coliseum Digital Board

According to a release put out by Visit Fort Wayne, celebration festivities will take place throughout the entirety of championship week.

Officials say the public is invited to come out to the Fort Wayne Visitors Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, March 11, to enjoy a free cookie and take a picture with the tournament trophy. The teams are scheduled to arrive in Fort Wayne on Tuesday, a community service project will take place on Wednesday and the Semifinal game is on Thursday with the Championship game following on Saturday.

On March 13, the final four participating teams in the tournament will assemble dental kits that will be given to local families through McMillen Health and Vincent Village, the release says.

The schedule for the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Semifinals and Championship games on March 14 and 16 is as follows:

Semifinals - Thursday, March 14

Game 1: 5:30 p.m.

Game 2: 8 p.m.

National Championship - Saturday, March 16

NABC Reese’s Division III All-Star Game: 12:30 p.m.

National Championship Game: 4 p.m.

All events will be held at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and game tickets can be purchased at NCAATickets.com.
