Potts Resigns as Lady Buff Volleyball Head Coach

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M Director of Athletics Michael McBroom announced on Monday that volleyball head coach Kendra Potts has resigned her position to become Grand Canyon University's head volleyball coach.

"Words aren't enough to express our gratitude to Kendra and her family for an incredible run and for returning WT Volleyball to national relevance," McBroom said.  "She came here as a Lady Buff, leaves here a Lady Buff and regardless of where she coaches, will always be a Lady Buff.  We all wish her the very best in her new opportunity."

Potts just completed her fifth season as the Lady Buffs head coach as WT went 33-4 (14-2 LSC) including the program's third straight trip to the South Central Regional, NCAA Elite Eight and back-to-back national championship match appearances with an NCAA Division II National Championship title in 2022. She took over the program in 2018 where she has since developed a 124-24 (.839) career record. Prior to coming to WT, Potts spent six seasons as the top assistant and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. As a player, she was an All-American (2001, 2002, 2003) for the Lady Buffs and WT Hall of Champions inductee in 2014.

"I want to thank Michael McBroom and President Wendler for trusting me to lead the Lady Buff Volleyball Program for the past five seasons" Potts said.  "From Day one, WT has given my family and I so much love and support and I will be forever grateful. I have spent some of the best years of my life loving this program both as a student-athlete and as a coach. I want to thank all the players that have served this program and have embraced every aspect of what it means to be a Lady Buff. Lastly, I want to thank the community of Canyon and Amarillo for loving and supporting us through it all. WT Volleyball is going to continue being a National Powerhouse as well as a source of love and joy to this community. I will forever be a devout fan of WT and Lady Buff Volleyball! Thank you!"

A national search for WT's next volleyball head coach is immediately underway.
