Zack Krieger Appointed as Men's and Women's Cross Country Coach

Greensboro, NC - Greensboro College Athletics has announced the appointment of Zack Krieger as the Head Coach of the Men's & Women's Cross Country programs. A member of the USA South Athletic Conference, The Pride will begin competing in Fall, 2024 after a 12-year hiatus from the sport.

A 2018 graduate of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania majoring in Secondary Education and History, Krieger earned an M.S. in Kinesiology with a Sports Management concentration from the University of Central Missouri in 2020. As a collegiate athlete at East Stroudsburg, Krieger was a 4-time all-conference honoree in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Krieger began his coaching career as an Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at NCAA III Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania. While a graduate student, he served in a similar role at NCAA II Central Missouri. Upon graduation, Krieger continued as Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach at NCAA II California State University-East Bay.

All told, Krieger was involved in coaching 11 Conference Champions (8 men, 3 women) 35 All-Conference honorees (19 men, 16 women), 9 all-region honorees (5 men, 4 women) and 5 National Qualifiers (2 men, 3 women).

Krieger relocated to North Carolina in 2022 and soon became the Assistant Facility Director at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC. The JDL facility is a private, non-school affiliated indoor track complex that annually hosts 49 indoor track meets for high schools and colleges including multiple collegiate conference championships.

Director of Athletics Kim Strable noted that "Zack has a passion for running and has played a significant role in recruiting while helping manage cross country for successful collegiate programs. We are confident he is well prepared for this leadership role, and his access to high school coaches and student-athletes competing at JDL provides a unique win-win opportunity for recruiting purposes."

Greensboro College President Dr. Lawrence Czarda added that, "Zack Krieger is an ideal Coach to bring back competitive men's and women's cross country to Greensboro College. His broad experience in competition, coaching and developing student athletes is impressive."

Krieger still competes on both track and road racing events, recently clocking a time of 1:14:13 in a half marathon and finishing 2nd in the North Carolina State 8K road race championship. In comments made upon his appointment, Krieger said "I'd like to start by thanking Coach Strable, Associate Athletic Director Karen Buxton and the Search Committee for providing me the opportunity to build the cross-country program. I believe Greensboro College has a lot of potential in the sport, and I'm excited to hit the ground running!"
