Hensley steps down as volleyball head coach

COLUMBUS, Miss. – Halee Hensley, who recently completed her third season as the Mississippi University for Women head volleyball coach, has resigned from her position effective March 16, 2024. Hensley stepped down to accept the same position at her alma mater, Central Baptist College in Conway, Arkansas, her home state.

"We want to thank Halee for all of her efforts on behalf of the Owls' volleyball program," Interim Director of Athletics Buddy Foster said. "Her desire to always put the student-athlete first was evident and she left our program in a better place than it was when she took over, which is always the goal. On behalf of the staff, we wish her nothing but success as she returns home."

Hensley guided the Owls' program through its transition to NCAA Division III and into the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) last fall.

After taking over The W program on less than two weeks' notice back in 2021 (after a late resignation), Hensley crafted a program that was grounded in the NCAA III philosophy of cultivating the true student-athlete. Hensley's teams, annually, ranked among the top among the 17 MUW athletics teams.

Hensley took the Owls to the 2022 USCAA national tournament and had the team ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation that season. She produced the first two all-American award winners of the modern athletics era at The W.

In the classroom, Hensley-coached teams earned 17 USCAA All-Academic Team members, three consecutive AVCA Academic Team honors, eight SLIAC All-Academic selections this past fall, as well as a SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team honor. Four of her student-athletes were also named to the prestigious College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in 2023.
