SAINT PAUL, Minn. -Â Gustavus senior goalie
Katie McCoy etched her named in the NCAA record books Saturday afternoon, setting the Division III record for career shutouts. After making 13 saves in a 1-0 win over St. Catherine, McCoy picked up her 32nd career shutout, passing the previous record of 31 set by Sydney Aveson of Plattsburgh State (2010-14).Â
Gustavus controlled the pace of play for the majority of the game, outshooting the Wildcats 17-5 in the first and 16-6 in the second, but couldn't find the back of the net through two periods.
Brooke Power put an end to the shutout at the 7:22 mark of the third as she scored back post on an assist from
Sophia Coltvet.Â
The Gusties held on to the one-goal lead for the win, outshooting St. Kate's 40-13. The Gusties went 0-for-6 on the power play and held the Wildcats scoreless in four penalty kills.Â
Gustavus will host UW-River Falls on Tuesday night for its final non-conference game of the season and third matchup of the season against the Falcons in a game featuring the top two ranked teams in Division III. UWRF won the first two games of the series, 2-0 on Dec. 5 and 3-2 on Dec. 13.Â
