Women's Rugby Announces Transition to NCR Division 1 Beginning in Fall 2024

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Adrian College Women's Rugby team has announced that starting in the Fall of 2024, Adrian College will be competing as a Division I team under the NCR. National Collegiate Rugby was first founded in 2007 to support rugby at small colleges across America. After the pandemic, they expanded to larger schools in an effort to support the growth and development of collegiate rugby teams, student-athletes, and coaches.

Each year NCR puts on XVs and 7s championships in the Fall and Spring, as well as an All-Star event over the winter.

Head Coach of the Adrian College Women's Rugby team, Mike Bowen, was ecstatic about the new opportunity for his team, who is fresh off a second place finish in NIRA DIII last season.

"There are several NCR D1 teams in Michigan, Indiana and Ohio, and we've had the chance to compete against them several times. This past Fall we played against both the eventual champion (University of Michigan) and runner-up (Notre Dame College) and held our own. I'm excited to lead our squad into this new competition!"

The Bulldogs will play out their final schedule in NIRA DIII this spring before transitioning to NCR Division 1 in the Fall. For more information on the Women's Rugby team, check out their page on the Adrian College Athletics website or follow them on social media, @AdrianWRugby
