Goldey-Beacom Names Alexa Poss Its New Volleyball Coach

1/29/2024 12:00:00 AM

Alexa Poss, who already has helped mold one successful college volleyball team, looks to accomplish the same thing in Pike Creek as she was tabbed Goldey-Beacom's new head coach.

Poss in 2022 took over a squad at Albright College that the previous year went 5-11 and ended the season with seven consecutive losses.  Things changed her first season with a 10-13 record and continued into last year, when the Lions went 16-10 and won eight straight matches midway through the campaign.

That 2023 season marked the best overall record for the program in 20 years and saw the first player named Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week since 2019.

Poss in 2023 brought in 11 players for the program's first full recruiting class and over two seasons generated more than $10,000 in fundraising and donations.

Poss was a three-year player at Albright, leading the squad with 480 assists in 2019 that placed her fifth in the Commonwealth Conference.  In her sophomore campaign of 2018, she paced the Lions with 479 assists and 44 aces.

Also in her sophomore year, Poss represented Albright with the Beyond Sports Tour in Costa Rica.

She also has served since 2022 as the Nike Volleyball Camp Director at Albright.  Poss organized and directed four different camps over the years with over 100 campers and constructed over 10 different sessions in skill set and recruiting seminars.

Poss from 2018-19 was the head coach for the Delaware United Volleyball Club and was the club's assistant coach from 2017-18.

The Annapolis, MD native played her freshman season in 2017 at Immaculata University after competing at Saint Mary's High School.  At the latter, she was twice named the team's Most Valuable Player, All-Anne Arundel County and all-conference.
