BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - In October 2023, Dr. Robert Clark announced he will step down this year from his role as president of Husson University.

Now, after months long search, the university has announced who will take the torch.

Lynne Coy-Ogan will assume the role as president of Husson University on July 1.

She will be the first female president of the university in its 125-year history.

The Bangor native received a bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from Boston University then got her Master’s in School Counseling from Johns Hopkins.

She later received her Ed. D. in educational leadership from Liberty University.

In 2005 Coy-Ogan joined the Husson University family as dean of the school of education and rose to provost in 2009.

She says she’s honored to take on this vital educational role in her hometown all while adding a few ‘firsts’ to her resume.

“I think it’s a tremendous privilege,” said Coy-Ogan. “While I’m fortunate to be the first, I know I won’t be the last, and so, I think that serving as a role model to students has always been a career goal of mine. Certainly, to be appointed as the first female president of the university is a tremendous honor.”

Clark, who was named Husson President in 2010, was the current longest serving president at any four-year college or university in Maine.
