SFU and Nike Extend Partnership

1/24/2024 2:16:00 PM

BURNABY, B.C. – Simon Fraser University Athletics and Recreation and Nike T. Litzen are pleased to announce the extension of their partnership that sees Nike, one of the world's most powerful brands, serve as the official and exclusive supplier of uniforms and apparel to Canada's only NCAA team, the Red Leafs.

Since the 2019-20 season, SFU's hundreds of varsity student-athletes have proudly worn SFU colours alongside the Nike Team Swoosh. The initial five-year agreement marked the first time in the University's history that it partnered exclusively with a single apparel provider for its sports programs, competitive clubs, student clubs, recreation programs and camps.

The extension of this partnership will have the SFU Red Leafs continue to wear Nike's marquee uniforms, apparel, equipment and more through 2027. The agreement will continue to be facilitated through T. Litzen Sports, a prominent provider of apparel and equipment to schools and sports teams in Canada, as well as the exclusive Nike Team dealer for Canada.

"Nike T. Litzen has been a fantastic partner. We are excited and grateful for their continued support of SFU Athletics and Recreation", said Novell Thomas, Director of Operations, Athletics and Recreation. "Nike T. Litzen continues to provide supports that will assist our students and student-athletes in multiple ways."

As part of this partnership, Nike T. Litzen remains dedicated to supporting their commitment to SFU student-athlete academic success and athletic achievement that help to keep Canada's best student-athletes in the country. A noteworthy addition to Nike T. Litzen's commitment is support for student-athlete well-being and mental health. This will include  funding initiatives for sport psychology, sport psychiatry, counseling and related services.

SFU is the only university in Canada that competes in the NCAA, delivering the American athletic experience along with a Canadian education at the country's top-ranked comprehensive university. SFU has developed more than 100 Olympians, including seven gold medalists. In addition, the university offers recreation programs at all three campuses, and since 1967, SFU Camps has encouraged learning & skill development through physical activity, educational programming, and creative endeavors in an inclusive & positive environment.
