St. Joseph's (L.I.) Announces Addition of Men's Swimming Program

Patchogue, NY| St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) is excited to announce the addition of men's swimming to the Long Island athletics department roster. With approval from SJNY administration, immediate recruitment and competition will begin in the 2024-25 academic year. The expansion will grow the total number of varsity sports programs on the Long Island campus to seventeen.

"We are extremely excited to announce the expansion of our athletic department with the introduction of a men's swimming program," says Melody Cope, Director of Athletics. "Building upon the proud history of success in our women's program, we look forward to forging a new legacy of excellence with our men's team. Under the leadership of Coach Brandenberger, whose proven track record and dedication have shaped our student-athletes over the past seven seasons, we are confident that our men's team will experience success in the pool, in the classroom, and within the community."

Current women's swimming coach and 2022-23 Skyline Coach of the Year Chris Brandenberger has been tabbed to lead the men's program. While at the helm of the women's program, the Golden Eagles have produced eight All-Conference swimmers, three Skyline Conference Individual Champions, and an overall record of 44-23-1. Brandenberger has coached both men's and women's swimming at multiple levels throughout his career, including programs at Washington College (Md), Iona College (now University), and Stony Brook University.

"I'm absolutely thrilled to have the unique opportunity to build our St. Joseph's men's program from the ground up," said Brandenberger. The addition of the new men's program is great for the sport of swimming, the Skyline Conference, and St. Joseph's University, New York. I look forward to recruiting and leading future Golden Eagle student-athletes who will represent our institution with pride and class."
