MSOE Names Massoels Athletic Director

MSOE is proud to announce the appointment of William "Bill" Massoels to serve as the new Athletic Director.
"I am excited and honored to be the next Athletic Director," said Massoels. "This is a great time for our programs and our student-athletes, and we plan on accomplishing great things. My goal is to win.  Whether it's in the classroom, on the field, on the court, or in and around the community, we plan on being the pinnacle of athletics and academics in Division 3."

Massoels comes into this position with 18 years of experience as an athletic director, having previously led the athletic department at Saint Joseph's College. Since arriving at MSOE, Massoels has led the Cross Country and Track and Field teams to the top of the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference, bringing home seven conference championships in his tenure.  He has also been named Coach of the Year in the NACC seven times. Through the course of his 31-year career, he has coached 27 All-Americans.

"During his brief time as interim, the department has expanded its event offerings," said Dr. Tim Valley, Vice President of Student Services & Enrollment Management. "The MLK Classic basketball competition featuring area high schools including Milwaukee Riverside, Milwaukee Washington, Milwaukee Rufus King, Milwaukee Audubon, Milwaukee Academy of Science, Milwaukee Hamilton, St.Thomas More, and Golda Meir brought many community members to our campus. In addition, supporting Homecoming and adding events like Winterfest provides our university the opportunity to gain a sense of community pride through athletics while celebrating the accomplishments of our student-athletes. These events will continue to provide an opportunity for our Alumni as well as our students' families to engage with us. These initiatives align with the University Strategic Plan and provide excellent opportunities for athletics to collaborate with both internal and external partners for the advancement of the university."

Valley also credits Massoels with the continued expansion of MSOE's varsity sports, which currently features 13 men's and 13 women's teams with plans to launch women's hockey and men's and women's bowling next year. MSOE recently added women's lacrosse and women's wrestling to their growing roster of varsity sports.
