Skidmore names Brad Campion head men’s soccer coach

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Skidmore College has selected Delmar native Brad Campion as its head men's soccer coach.

Campion has served as an assistant coach at Division I University of New Hampshire for the past two years after a two-year stint as the head coach at DIII New England College, where he led his 2021 team to a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) title and NCAA Tournament appearance.

"We are excited to welcome Brad Campion to our Skidmore College community as he begins his tenure as our head men's soccer coach," said Skidmore athletics director Gail Cummings-Danson. "Brad stood out among an impressive group of candidates with a background focused on developing the whole student while remaining committed to excellence in the classroom and on the field."

"I am incredibly grateful and excited to be joining the Skidmore College community and to lead the men's soccer program, Campion said. "I would like to sincerely thank Gail Cummings-Danson, the search committee and athletic department members, and current Skidmore men's soccer student-athletes for providing such a great experience during the interview process. I quickly learned that Skidmore had a positive, tight-knit culture and that the people on campus truly support one another."

"With Brad's clear vision for the program, passionate work ethic and his proven track record of strong student-athlete mentorship, we believe that he is the perfect fit to be the next leader of our program," Cummings-Danson added. "We look forward to having his work with our team begin and believe that our student-athletes will thrive under his leadership."

"I am deeply honored to be entrusted with this responsibility and will be fully committed to fostering a competitive, winning environment in which our student-athletes are holistically supported in their athletic, academic, and professional pursuits," Campion said.

While at UNH, Campion worked on a coaching staff that was honored with two America East Coaching Staff of the Year awards behind a top-10 nationally ranked team. With him on the staff, the Wildcats claimed America East regular season titles twice with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances and one America East Tournament championship. The Wildcats had an NCAA Tournament win in both of Campion's seasons on staff, including a second-round win over defending national champion Syracuse last fall. UNH went 28-7-5 (.763) with Campion as its assistant coach while developing six professional players, including Major League Soccer third overall pick Moise Bambito, two United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-Americans, and six All-America East honorees.

In addition to his on-field responsibilities as an assistant coach in Durham, Campion served as the recruiting coordinator and designed and supervised a residential soccer camp with 400 campers and 50 coaches.

In Campion's second year at the helm of the New England College team, he won the 2021 NECC Coach of the Year award and led the USC Men's New England Region Staff of the Year for Division III. He accumulated a two-year record of 12-7-2 with the Pilgrims, with a 2021 mark of 9-7-2. NEC had a USC All-Region and NECC Co-Player of the Year award winner, the NECC Rookie of the Year, and six All-NECC selections.

Before going to NEC, Campion was the director of men's soccer operations during the 2019 season at New Hampshire. He also had previous coaching stops at SUNY Purchase as an assistant coach and was the head coach for the Manhattan Soccer Club. During his time at UNH, he also served as the program director for the New Hampshire Olympic Development Program for youth soccer players from 12-17.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the people that supported me at the University of New Hampshire and New England College," Campion stated Since moving to New Hampshire in 2019, I have been beyond fortunate to have mentors such as Marc Hubbard at UNH, Dave DeCew at NEC, Ed Royer at NH Olympic Development Program, and numerous other community members. I will always be grateful for the opportunities I had to grow as an assistant coach at UNH and as a head coach at NEC."

Campion played collegiately at Southern New Hampshire University for two years before transferring to SUNY Geneseo. At SNHU, Campion's 2013 squad won the NCAA Division II national championship and a pair of Northeast-10 Conference titles. He also was an NCAA Elite 89 Academic Award recipient. At Geneseo, Campion was a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-American®, two-time All-East selection, three-time First Team All-SUNYAC selection, and was named the 2016 SUNYAC Scholar Athlete of the Year. Campion graduated from SUNY Geneseo with a degree in history and adolescence education. He got his master's from the Teachers College, Columbia University in higher and postsecondary education.

"Even though I have been coaching in New Hampshire for the past four and half years, I have always called the Capital Region my home and wanted to return one day for an opportunity like this. I am eager to re-engage with the Saratoga and Capital Region soccer communities and connect our men's soccer student-athletes with local youth players to create meaningful bonds. Go T-Breds!"

Campion's first day at Skidmore will be Monday, Jan. 29.
