Caltech Men’s Tennis Welcomes Adam Clark as Head Coach

PASADENA, Calif. — Caltech Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation has selected Adam Clark as head coach of the men's tennis program, the department announced on Monday.

Clark brings to the Institute an impressive coaching resume that spans from Ohio to Pennsylvania to Connecticut and Missouri. He will take over an accomplished program who last year achieved a 5-2 conference record, a No. 13 national ranking, a No. 3 regional ranking and a runner-up finish in the SCIAC Tournament finals.

The newest Beaver most recently served as the head men's tennis coach at the College of Wooster, where Clark took the reins in 2021 until departing for Caltech. At Wooster, Clark was recognized by the Tennis Recruiting Network for a top-40 recruiting class in 2024 and a top-50 recruiting in 2023. In 2022, Clark led the Fighting Scots to their best conference finish in 15 years; it was the highest overall win total in over 16 years. That season, he led the squad to a final regional ranking of No. 18 with the group peaking at No. 13 earlier in the spring.

Before becoming head coach at Wooster, Clark served as Assistant Men's and Women's Tennis Coach for nearly two full years at Allegheny College. There, he served as recruiting coordinator for two seasons and successfully recruited the strongest men's class since 2014 and women's player since the 2012 recruitment cycle. He also recruited a future NCAC First Team selection in the 2021 cycle. The talented coach helped the women's program to its best conference record since 2012-13.

Prior to serving at Allegheny, Clark assisted the men's and women's programs at Trinity College where he also completed his master's degree in public policy. There, Clark helped the women's squad to a national ranking of No. 28 while also handling much of the scheduling, travel and practice planning for both groups.

Clark came to Trinity following a stint at the Div. II level, serving as the men's and women's assistant coach at William Jewell College. The well-traveled Clark joined their staff after beginning his coaching career at the Northland Racquet Club in Kansas City, Mo., where he worked with junior players.

A former standout at Drew University, Clark achieved second-team All-Landmark Conference recognition in his senior year. He played three seasons in the one and two positions in both singles and doubles and won 60 matches over the course of his four years. He earned his bachelor's degree in political science and economics from the institution in 2016.

"I am incredibly excited to be joining the Caltech family and be back home in California," said Clark, who is originally from Fremont, Calif. "I would like to thank [Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation] Betsy Mitchell and everyone on the search committee for trusting me to lead the Men's Tennis program as we work to continue our climb in the national spotlight," he said. "The current members on the team have an immense amount of talent and strong character that will set us up well as we build toward an even brighter future together," said Clark. "It is a great time to be a Beaver!"

Mitchell is excited for Clark to bring his talent to a surging Caltech program.

"We are so pleased to welcome Adam to our team," said Mitchell. "Our men's program has tremendous national momentum, and I know that Adam's experience and character will help us push that further. We are thrilled to help him return 'home' to California and look forward to him settling in and providing stability in this role to let the program really thrive."

Caltech Men's Tennis kicks off its 2024 regular season on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 12 p.m. as the Beavers host UC Santa Cruz in a home showdown. Cheer on the team in person or follow along online at gocaltech.com/coverage.
