Julie Toland Named Associate AD for Facilities & Events

Former Dartmouth Assistant AD Joins Baker's Administrative Team

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins University Associate Vice Provost for Student Affairs, Director of Athletics and Recreation Jennifer S. Baker has announced the appointment of Julie Toland as Associate Director of Athletics for Facilities and Events.  Toland replaces Brandon Holley, who left the University in November, and her tenure at Johns Hopkins will begin on January 22.

In her role at Johns Hopkins, Toland will lead a six-person staff that manages all Johns Hopkins athletics facilities and events.  This includes the staffing and operation of Blue Jay varsity athletic events, including the hosting of all conference and NCAA Championship competition.  Toland will serve as the main point of contact with the NCAA and all affiliated conferences when Johns Hopkins hosts post-season events; this will include fulfilling all necessary pre-championship paperwork, serving as the tournament director of select championships and completing all post-championship reports.

During the recently completed fall season, Johns Hopkins hosted 20 Centennial Conference and NCAA Tournament games and has hosted 67 conference or NCAA Tournament games dating back to the fall of 2022.

In addition, Toland will manage all external events with a focus on growing and sustaining external revenue streams through camps, clinics, facility rentals and other events.  She will also oversee all capital projects within the footprint of the Department of Athletics and will be responsible for the coordination of facility maintenance and equipment repair and replacement.

Toland most recently served as the Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities and Events at Dartmouth since October 2019.  In that position, she managed the scheduling, operation and access control of 25 separate athletic facilities that were utilized by varsity and club teams, students and members of the community.  Toland oversaw the scheduling, planning and on-site management of more than 300 home events per year during her time in this position.

In addition to her event and facility management oversight at Dartmouth, Toland also gained valuable experience as a sport administrator with either direct or shared responsibility for eight varsity athletic programs.

Prior to spending the last four years as an Assistant Director of Athletics, Toland served for more than five years as the Assistant Director of Financial and Travel Operations at Dartmouth.  She helped coordinate travel for 35 varsity teams that routinely made more than 250 trips per year and managed all staff expenses, reporting and reconciliation.

Toland  graduated from Sacred Heart University in 2011 with a degree sport management.  She served as a national program coordinator with the National Alliance for Youth Sports in 2011 and was the director of operations at Koa Sports, a Washington D.C. based youth sports nonprofit organization, from 2012-14.
