LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Racing Lousiville FC, the National Women's Soccer League club out of Louisville, Kentucky, announced the hiring of Oklahoma Christian men's soccer head coach
Mitchell Sowerby on Friday afternoon.
"Oklahoma Christian is very thankful for all the hard work coach Sowerby did to take our men's soccer program to the next level. In a short time, he elevated our expectations on and off the field and showed us what is possible for the program in NCAA D2." Athletic Director David Lynn said. "We are excited to continue to build on the momentum coach Sowerby established. We wish him well in his pro coaching endeavor and are extremely excited for him and his family."
Sowerby spent three seasons at the helm of OC men's soccer after a brief but successful stint at Mid-America Christian University. As the head coach at OC, Sowerby led the Eagles to an 11-win season in 2022, advancing to the championship match of the Lone Star Conference Championships. In 2023, he led the Eagles to their first back-to-back appearances in the LSC Championships, picking up a win in the first round of the tournament.
The Eagles saw its first-team All-Region player, LSC Freshman of the Year, in
Ellis Jones and numerous other all-conference, academic, and second-team All-Region awards under the leadership of coach Sowerby.
"I would like to thank Coach Lynn and the administration at Oklahoma Christian for allowing me to lead such a prestigious program. It was an honor to play a small part in the historic success the team has had over the last few years." Coach Sowerby said. "I would like to thank all the alumni, donors, and anyone who has supported OC during my time. You have all played a part in the program's recent success on and off the field. I will forever be an Eagle, and I will continue supporting Oklahoma Christian Athletics as I move into a new role and a new chapter of my life. Thank you."
Oklahoma Christian, boasting revamped facilities thanks in part to the work of Sowerby and women's soccer head coach Evan Dresel, will begin the search for the 8th head coach in program history.
