AVE MARIA, Fla.- Ave Maria University is pleased to announce the hiring of Teigan McCormick as the new head coach for the Ave Maria volleyball program. McCormick's appointment was announced Tuesday by the University athletic department. As head volleyball coach, McCormick will be the leader of both the indoor and beach volleyball programs at Ave Maria.

"Coach McCormick knows the team well and is in an ideal position to lead them forward," said Joe Patterson, AMU's Vice President for Enrollment and Athletics. "She has a strong vision for the program and great desire to incorporate the mission of the University."

McCormick has been at Ave Maria for three seasons, serving as the top assistant for the AMU volleyball program. Her duties also included serving as the head coach for the Gyrenes' developmental teams, which included varsity reserves and junior varsity teams.

During McCormick's tenure at Ave Maria, the Gyrenes have been in the mix as a top program in The Sun Conference, qualifying for The Sun Conference Tournament in all three indoor seasons. AMU won the conference tournament title in 2021, and finished as the regular season runner-up in the league in both 2021 and 2022. The beach program has also been successful, consistently ranking among the nation's top 15 teams.

"I am grateful for this opportunity given to me by the University and Coach Patterson," said Coach McCormick. "I am very excited to continue working with the ladies and take the court this spring"

Before coming to Ave Maria, McCormick was an assistant coach with the renowned USA South Volleyball program, which has produced dozens of Division I volleyball players. McCormick was an assistant coach for the 16U team, helping the team to an AAU national championship and a top ten USA Volleyball ranking. She also served as a coach with the Junior Trojans Volleyball and Prime Time Volleyball Club organizations.

McCormick was an accomplished volleyball player in her own right, playing first for two seasons at Parkland College, where she was a first team All-American. She then moved on to the University of Indianapolis, where she was a team captain and helped UIndy to two conference tournament bids.

McCormick inherits a talented young roster on the indoor side, with nine of the program's top 12 players in sets played this season possessing remaining eligibility. The beach program will be the first to take the court with McCormick as the head coach, with the 2024 season set to begin in the first weeks of the calendar year.
