GOODWELL, Okla-OPSU proudly announces the appointment of Ken McAlpine as the new head coach for the women's soccer team, commencing the 2024 season.

McAlpine brings an exceptional coaching pedigree, having served seven successful years as the head coach at Northeastern Junior College. His tenure at Northeastern Junior College was marked by remarkable achievements, notably in 2019, when he steered the team to its inaugural winning record, setting a significant milestone in the program's history.

Under McAlpine's guidance, the team continued its upward trajectory, securing a Top-4 finish in Region 9 during the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons and advancement to the semi-finals of the regional tournament. This run was highlighted by the 2021 team that achieved a 12-3-1 regular season record, finishing 2nd in the Region and appearing in the National Top 20 poll of NJCAA Division 1. That team also saw seven players selected to the All-Region Team and six receiving Academic All-American recognition.

"A coach of Ken McAlpine's caliber brings an exceptional track record and a vision that resonates with our commitment to excellence," stated Athletic Director Victor Esparza. "His proven ability to inspire teams and foster a culture of success aligns perfectly with our women's soccer program aspirations. We're excited to witness his impact on and off the field.

McAlpine is originally from Japan and moved to the States as a youth. He is an alumnus of the University of Pikeville (KY). He earned his Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2011. Furthering his commitment to the sports realm, he pursued and obtained a Master's in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco in 2017.

Reflecting on McAlpine's appointment, University President Julie Dinger expressed, "We are delighted to welcome Coach Ken McAlpine to our university community. His commitment to athletic excellence and holistic development resonates with our values, and we look forward to the positive impact he will have on our student-athletes.

McAlpine expressed his excitement, stating," I would like to thank Athletic Director Esparza and the search committee for their confidence in me to lead the Women's Soccer program at OPSU. I would also like to thank all the soccer alumni, coaches I worked with, AD Marci Henry, and everyone on campus at NJC for making the last seven seasons an enjoyable and rewarding experience. I'm beyond excited to put my passion fully behind OPSU Athletics and build a competitive program in the Panhandle. I felt immediately welcomed and at home on campus, and I can't wait to get started."

McAlpine's dedication to soccer extends beyond coaching; as a former player, he left an indelible mark at the University of Pikeville Bears. His exceptional leadership on the field propelled the Bears to their most successful season in 2009. McAlpine's prowess was acknowledged with an All-conference selection in the Midsouth Conference, coupled with setting an impressive six school records in scoring.

The Aggie athletics department warmly welcomes Ken McAlpine and eagerly anticipates the wealth of experience, leadership, and passion he brings to the women's soccer program.
