Anaya Named La Verne Softball Interim Head Coach

LA VERNE, CA — Tara Anaya has been named the University of La Verne softball interim head coach, University of La Verne Director of Athletics Dr. Jenna Panatier announced.

"I am pleased to have Tara at the helm of the Leopard softball program. She has played an instrumental role in the success of La Verne softball as both an assistant coach and student-athlete. I anticipate great things for her and the program as she steps into this new leadership position," said Pantier.

Anaya moves into her new role after serving as an assistant coach on the Leopards' staff since 2020. She takes over for former head coach Dennis Blas who stepped down after leading La Verne for the past four seasons.

Anaya (then Tara Allis) is an alumna of the Leopard softball program, played four years for the squad, and earned numerous accolades. She received First Team All-SCIAC honors in 2009, 2010, and 2012 and Second Team All-SCIAC distinction in 2011. Additionally, Anaya received Second Team All-West Region honors in 2011.

"I am thrilled and honored to return to the University of La Verne as the Interim Head Softball Coach. As an alumni of the program, this opportunity holds a special place in my heart. It is a privilege to lead a team of talented athletes and contribute to their growth on and off the field" said Anaya.

Anaya began coaching in 2015 when she joined Riverside Community College as an assistant coach and defensive coordinator. During her time there, she also taught a physical fitness course, allowing her to share her knowledge and passion with aspiring athletes. After two years at Riverside, she moved to Orange Coast College, where she continued her coaching career as an assistant coach. In addition to her coaching duties, she served as the defensive coordinator, a student-athlete tutor and mentor, and a physical fitness instructor.

"My vision for this season is to elevate the University of La Verne softball program to national prominence, not only by achieving athletic success but also by nurturing the personal and academic growth of our student-athletes.

"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to our athletic director, Jenna Panatier, and the University of La Verne for granting me this extraordinary opportunity. Together, we will strive to create a culture of excellence and build a program that fosters champions in softball, in the classroom, and life," said Anaya.

Anaya earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of La Verne and a Master of Education focusing on Counseling Psychology and Sport Psychology from the University of Missouri.

The Leopards will play their alumni game on January 27 at 11 a.m. and then open the season on February 18 in a doubleheader against Whitworth beginning at 10 a.m.
