Howard Appointed Senior Woman Administrator

BOWIE, MD -- Bowie State University Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Clyde Doughty, Jr. has announced that Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development Wanda Rene Howard will assume the role as Senior Woman Administrator.

"I am pleased to announce that Ms. Wanda Rene Howard has been appointed as the Senior Women's Administrator for Bowie State University Athletics," said Doughty, Jr. "As a veteran administrator I am very confident that Ms. Howard will provide administrative and social support for all of the women's program while also providing input for our men's programs as well."

Howard, who also serves as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) advisor has been with the department since 2018, serving in different capacities within athletics. She currently oversees the department's student-athlete's academic support services and is the liaison for student-athlete housing and mental wellness. In addition to her roles within athletics, Howard also serves as the chair of the Bowie State University Space, Ground and Buildings Committee.

"I am honored that Vice President Doughty has appointed me SWA," said Howard. "I look forward to promoting significant and relevant representation of women in leadership and management in college sports as well as working with each and every one of my colleagues and assisting in any capacity needed within "Bulldog Nation"."

Howard is a two-time alumnus of Bowie State, earning a Bachelor's degree in Broadcast Journalism and a Master's in Organizational Communications. She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Educational Leadership in Higher Education at Bowie State. During her undergraduate time at BSU, Howard was a member of the Golden Girls - the BSU cheerleading sqaud.

Howard is a member of the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A), Women Leaders in Sports, Minority Opportunities for Athletic Administrators (MOAA), the National Association of Black Journalist (NABJ), National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) and Washington Cheerleader Association (WCA).
