Dr. Chris Davis named Esports Director

Newest addition to Waynesburg athletics brings impressive resume to newest Yellow Jacket program

WAYNESBURG, Pa. (Jan. 9) – The Waynesburg University Department of Athletics is excited to announce the hiring of Chris Davis, Ph.D. as the new Director of its Esports program. Dr. Davis brings a truly remarkable resume with him to Waynesburg, which is in the middle of its second year of the program's existence.
 
"Chris has a very impressive resume and can relate to young adults and connect with them in many ways," said Waynesburg Director of Athletics, Tim Fusina. "I believe the many experiences and roles he has held on college campuses will allow his players to develop as students, athletes and people."
 
Dr. Davis most recently served as the Director of Information Technology Services at Franciscan University of Steubenville. He served in the position since August of 2020. Prior to his work at Franciscan, he not only served as Chief Information Officer (CIO) at Virginia Wesleyan, but also established the school's Esports program. His responsibilities with the Marlins included arena design, technology selection, student recruitment, governance and coaching.
 
Before arriving in Virginia Beach, Dr. Davis was the CIO at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio, and spent nearly four years as the Vice President for Information Systems & Technology and CIO at the University of Central Arkansas.
 
"What impressed me the most was that Chris has years of experience in building competitive Esport programs," Fusina said. "He began a program from scratch and with the success our young program has had over the past two years and the resources we currently have, I am confident Chris can recruit quality people to our Esports program and build a tradition of success."
 
Closer to Waynesburg, Dr. Davis served as the Director of Education Technology at Plum Borough School District near Pittsburgh, Director of the Educational Technology Center at Robert Morris University, an application specialist at Duquesne University, a computer support specialist at West Shore School District in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, and a social studies teacher for the Spring Grove (Pa.) Area School District.
 
Dr. Davis earned his Doctor of Philosophy, Instructional Management and Leadership degree from Robert Morris in 2011 after completing a Master of Science degree in Education, Instructional Technology from Duquesne University in 2006. He also completed his undergraduate work at Clarion University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Secondary Social Studies and a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2000.
 
"I am excited to be working with the students and helping them become the best student-athletes they can be," Dr. Davis said. "One of my passions is helping others to unlock their full potential. Working with these students will allow me have an impact on their athletic, academic and, possibly, professional lives."
