Scot Vorwold Named Head Coach for Hampton Pirates Women’s Soccer Program

HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 8, 2024) – The Hampton University Women's Soccer program takes a significant leap forward with the announcement of Scot Vorwold as the new head coach for the Pirates. Anthony D. Henderson, Sr., Director of Athletics, announced the decision, underlining the university's commitment to excellence and the ongoing development of its student-athletes.

Henderson expressed his enthusiasm about the appointment: "We are thrilled to welcome Scot to lead our women's soccer team. His alignment with our values, unwavering passion, competitive spirit, and dedication to the well-being of our student-athletes make him an ideal fit. This marks an exciting chapter for the future of our women's soccer program, and we believe Scot's innovative coaching style and proven track record will contribute significantly to Hampton's success."

Vorwold joins Hampton with an impressive coaching history, having successfully transformed the women's soccer program at Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis. Taking charge of a struggling team with a 1-11-1 record in 2013 and an overall 6-57-3 record in the preceding four seasons, Vorwold orchestrated a remarkable turnaround and now holds the title of the winningest women's soccer coach in Harris-Stowe history.

"I would first like to thank my Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Additionally, I would like to express my gratitude to President Williams and AD Henderson for trusting me in revamping the women's soccer program here at Hampton University," remarked Vorwold. "I am beyond excited to lead the Pirates soccer program. Hampton's commitment to academic excellence, paired with their passion for athletics, really influenced my decision-making process. I am going to miss my team at Harris Stowe, but I can't wait to start building a championship-caliber team in the CAA here at Hampton. Go Pirates!"

During his tenure, Vorwold's initial four seasons saw a steady improvement, recording a 24-44-3 worksheet. However, the most impressive feat came in the last six seasons, with the Hornets boasting a remarkable 71-30-5 record. Over his ten years as head coach, the Hornets achieved a commendable 95-74-8 record, including back-to-back 13-5-1 seasons and an outstanding 18-2 mark in 2021.

Vorwold's coaching accolades also include being named the 2021 American Midwest Conference Coach of the Year. His leadership led to back-to-back conference tournament final appearances in 2021-2022, not only for the women's team but also guiding the men's team to the conference final in 2021. His prowess extended to recruiting, bringing in two conference newcomers of the year.

Vorwold's commitment to academic success was evident with three valedictorians in the past five years among the women's team. Additionally, he inherited the men's team, who, in the previous three seasons, compiled a record of 8-38-2. Under Vorwold's guidance from 2020-2022, the men's team achieved a remarkable 25-17-4 record, including a conference tournament final appearance and one tournament semi-final appearance. Notably, he recruited the conference newcomer of the year in 2022, showcasing his impact on both the women's and men's programs.

Beyond coaching achievements, Vorwold served as the Athletic Director at Tower Grove Christian Academy from 2011-20. His impact was felt as he led the varsity girls' soccer team to four state championships (2012, 2013, 2014, and 2019) and received conference coach of the year honors in 2009 and 2012.

With a bachelor's degree in business administration from Harris-Stowe, Vorwold brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to his new role at Hampton University. His impressive coaching history, dedication to excellence, and commitment to both athletic and academic success position him as a key figure in shaping the future success of the women's soccer program at Hampton University.

What they are saying about Scot Vorwold

"I have seen Scot transition from a hard-working collegiate forward through the ranks as an assistant coach and develop into a successful college head coach. He puts 110 percent into every challenge he tackles. In recent years, he single-handedly revamped both men's and women's soccer teams at Harris-Stowe into conference contenders. Hampton University will benefit immediately from having him on board. Coach Vorwold's approach and work ethic will ensure he hits the ground running in creating a successful Pirate's women's soccer program both athletically and academically."
