Murray State Athletics Announces Renovation of Roy Stewart Stadium Weight Room

Much-needed facility upgrade set to be completed by Summer 2024
As facility enhancements across the athletics footprint continue to be a top priority, the Murray State Department of Athletics is set to begin another exciting project with the renovation of the Roy Stewart Stadium Weight Room, it was announced on Monday morning.
The more than 6,000-square foot facility will service every Racer student-athlete across 13 of the department's sports programs and was funded through the support of a generous Racer investor.
"A significant amount of planning went into the design and overall vision of what this new weight room will accomplish," Director of Athletics Nico Yantko said. "This facility will play a critical role in the development and overall health and wellness of our student-athletes across all of our sport programs. We are excited for the continued progress that is occurring in the performance level of Roy Stewart Stadium and we are looking forward to the completion of this space."
Student-athlete welfare and modernization were the key components of this project, which will begin with a minor demolition phase that will greatly enhance the interior of the current space. Once completed, new paint and new branding will be added.
"Sandy and I are excited about the new weight room and what it means to our Racer student-athletes," Tommy Draffen said. "This is the first phase of a complete Performance Center addressing the strength and conditioning, nutrition, treatment and rehabilitation of our current and future Racers. The new equipment and facilities will match our championship aspirations on the field and on the court."
The facility will then be outfitted with state-of-the-art weight equipment and machines, including new racks, plates, dumbbells, benches and more, that will be utilized by every Racer program. All of the equipment will feature Murray State branding.
Additionally, a branded turf run is set to be installed that will allow for agility and speed training in the weight room.
Murray State has already made a significant amount of progress around the football team spaces in the performance level of the stadium.
Football's team room received major upgrades that included new branded seating, new back-lit signage and new technology for large and small meetings that will service the entire team and individual position groups. The team lounge was also outfitted with new televisions, a barber shop chair and pole, new branding and gaming stations.
Additionally, the coach's suite, along with the team's bathroom and shower spaces, were renovated during the first round of renovations.
The Racer Club plays a crucial role in helping support student-athlete scholarships, general operating budget, and facility enhancements. Investors play a critical role in funding the student-athlete experience and the competitive success of Murray State Athletics programs and student-athletes.
