CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville University tennis Head Coach Alan Edlund will retire following this spring's campaign.

He is in his 29th season leading the men's program and in his fifth season as head coach of the Lady Jackets.

"Cedarville University and the athletic department is indebted to Coach Edlund for his 29 years of service as our tennis coach," remarked Athletic Director Chris Cross. "His steadfast Christ-like character served to draw hundreds of student-athletes closer to the Lord throughout his tenure.

"Alan has served the athletic department as an exemplary model on how to show Christ's love by using the sport of tennis.  We will miss him on the court, but I am sure that he will continue to support the mission of Cedarville University Athletics."

Edlund has been associated with the men's tennis program for more than 40 years as either a player, assistant coach, and head coach.

Dr. Murray Murdoch, who also coached the Yellow Jacket men for 29 seasons from 1966-94, handpicked Edlund to be his successor along with the blessing of then Athletic Director Dr. Don Callan.

"I never would have anticipated doing this more than 50 years ago, and being directly associated with the tennis program for 42 years has been better than I could have imagined," Edlund said.

"Dr. Callan and Coach Murdoch were and have been so supportive throughout my career. I've developed many friendships with players that remain to this day and I look forward to supporting the program going forward."

Prior to serving as Murdoch's assistant coach, Edlund played four seasons for his mentor from 1972-75. He was a four-time all-district and all-conference performer on teams that posted an 80-2 combined record and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament each year.

As head coach, Edlund has guided the Yellow Jacket men to more than 300 victories, two conference championships, and one region title. Cedarville participated in the 2006 NAIA National Tournament and 12 NCCAA National Tournaments.

Forty of his players have earned NCCAA All-America honors and 51 others have been scholar-athletes.

Edlund added the women's program to his responsibilities during the 2018-19 academic year. He's coached eight NCCAA All-Americans and 12 scholar-athletes.
