Horizon League Announces Update to Council Leadership
INDIANAPOLIS (February 12, 2024) – The Horizon League announced this week an update to key leadership roles as Oakland Director of Athletics Steve Waterfield has been elevated to Council Chair while Purdue Fort Wayne’s Director of Athletics Kelley Hartley Hutton is now Vice Chair.
Why this matters: Now running point on the Horizon League Council, Waterfield takes over for former Cleveland State Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Garrett who departed his post in January. Waterfield began his role as Director of Athletics at Oakland in 2018 and has led the League’s Basketball Scheduling Committee as Chair the past two years. Additionally, Waterfield recently began a term on the NCAA’s Committee on Infractions.
Hutton, the former volleyball head coach for the ‘Dons, was named director of athletics in 2014 following 13 years as senior woman administrator.
Both leaders are in their respective council positions as a result of original peer elections.
