Mike Shiels

Shiels will enter his first season as head coach of the Terriers women’s soccer program in 2024 after joining the Hiram College Athletics staff on February 5, 2024. He previously spent 21 seasons and won over 200 games as head coach of the women’s soccer program at Division II Notre Dame College.

Since starting with the Falcons in 2003, Shiels accumulated a 204-131-37 overall record (.598 win pct) and 149-70-24 conference record (.663 win pct). He landed Mountain East Coach of the Year honors in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2020, while earning the Ohio Coaches Soccer Association Division II Coach of the Year award in 2013.

Notre Dame College featured nine All-American and 36 All-Region selections under the direction of Shiels. He notably led the program to its most wins in a single season (16) in 2013 before advancing to the NCAA Division II Tournament in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

Shiels played collegiate soccer at Mercyhurst College, earning first team All-GLIAC honors and advancing to the NCAA Division II Final Four twice. He also played one season with the National University of Ireland-Galway and took part in the All-Ireland National Championships.

Shiels lives in Mentor, Ohio with his wife, Liz, and two children, Aidan and Maryn.
