HIRAM, Ohio – February 7, 2024 – Hiram Athletics announced the hiring of Mike Shiels as the 10th head coach in Hiram women's soccer history on Monday.

Shiels spent the last 21 seasons as the head women's soccer coach at Division II Notre Dame College, where he won over 200 games and earned multiple coach of the year awards.

"We are pleased to announce the hiring of Mike as the Hiram College Women's Head Soccer Coach," Director of Athletics Scott Pohlman said. "We are very fortunate to have someone of Mike's caliber join us at Hiram College.  Mike comes to us with over 20 years and over 200 career wins as a head soccer coach.  I am looking forward to watching where Mike takes our program."

Shiels went 204-131-37 with the Falcons, which included wins in over 60% of conference games (149-70-24). Under Shiels, the team set a program record for wins in a single season in 2013 (16) and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in 2014, 2016 and 2017.

"Joining Hiram College's athletic department as the head women's soccer coach is an incredible honor and opportunity," Shiels said. "I am thrilled to bring my passion for the game, dedication to player development, and commitment to fostering a culture of excellence to the institution."

While at Notre Dame College, Shiels led nine All-American and 36 All-Region selections. He earned Mountain East Coach of the Year honors in 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2020, while landing the Ohio Coaches Soccer Association Division II Coach of the Year award in 2013.

As a student-athlete, Shiels played at Mercyhurst College, where he earned All-GLIAC honors and advanced to the Division II Final Four twice. He later would play one season for the National University of Ireland-Galway.

"I am grateful for the warm welcome and excited to begin on this journey with the student-athletes, staff, and community here at Hiram College," Shiels said.

Shiels and the Terriers women's soccer team will open competition this fall; the team won its most games since 2019 this past season.
