Gales Steps Down as Lincoln Football Coach

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Lincoln head football coach Jermaine Gales tendered his resignation on Monday (Dec. 11). Gales had served as LU's head football coach since November 2021.

Joe Carter will serve as the interim head coach of the Blue Tigers until a new leader is identified.

"This evening we accepted Coach Gales' resignation as Head Football Coach," said Dr. Kevin Wilson, Vice President for Advancement and Athletics. "I appreciate his effort leading our football program for the past two seasons. During his tenure, he assembled a roster of quality young men excited about being Blue Tigers and established a solid foundation for our transition to the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).

"Our priority is to identify the absolute best individual to lead our football program in a timely and thorough manner," Dr. Wilson continued. "With our transition to the GLVC, our future is bright. We are uniquely positioned as the only Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the conference with a long-standing, student-centered faculty and over $60 million dollars in on-campus improvements on the horizon.

"In addition to encompassing the values of our University, I am confident that we will attract a proven leader with a history of building programs and a track record of success both on and off the field."

Lincoln will immediately begin a national search to identify the next head coach of the Blue Tigers.
