Korn led Maryville to two consecutive NCAA tournament quarterfinal trips

MILWAUKEE – David Korn has been named the seventh head coach of the Marquette University men's soccer program, Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl announced on Monday afternoon.

"We are extremely excited by the opportunity today to welcome David Korn to the Marquette family as our new head men's soccer coach," Vice President and Director of Athletics Bill Scholl said.  "David developed an impressive culture of success at Maryville and the value system he had in place matches Marquette's mission as a university.

"Under his leadership, Marquette men's soccer student-athletes will have the opportunity to benefit from a transformational experience, growing as both individuals and players. We can't wait for David and his family to arrive on campus."

Korn arrives at Marquette following a successful eight‐year tenure at NCAA Division II Maryville University in St. Louis. During his tenure at Maryville, which began in 2016, Korn compiled a record of 98‐38‐26 and led the Saints to three Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) tournament championships in 2018, 2020‐21, and 2022, and a GLVC regular season championship in 2022, while Korn was named GLVC Co‐Coach of the Year.

Under Korn's tutelage, Maryville notched six consecutive NCAA tournament appearances (2017‐23).

Korn's ability to develop players was evident during his time at Maryville. He coached three major Great Lakes Valley Conference award winners, five All‐Americans, 20 United Soccer Coaches All‐Region players and 34 all‐conference selections. He has helped eight players advance to professional opportunities.

In 2023, Maryville finished the season with a 12‐4‐6 record before ultimately falling 3‐2 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament.

"I am incredibly honored and grateful to accept the position as head men's soccer coach at Marquette University.  I am excited to lead a new era of Marquette men's soccer and I'm thrilled to work at one of the country's top universities and athletic departments," Korn said. "It's clear to me that the opportunity at Marquette is one where our program can compete for BIG EAST and NCAA Championships.  However, this will come as a result of creating a culture where student-athletes in our program will invest, compete and enjoy the experience of being a Marquette men's soccer player.

"I want to thank Bill Scholl, Mike Broeker and the rest of the staff for the opportunity they have given to me and my family," Korn added.  I also want to be sure that I recognize and thank the players, coaches, alumni and staff at Maryville University who have shown me tremendous support over the past eight years."

Korn served as the co‐head coach at SIUE in 2014. In his first season with the program, he led SIUE to its first Missouri Valley Conference tournament championship and a bid to the NCAA Division I tournament. In 2015, Korn served as the program's associate head coach.

Prior to SIUE, Korn worked for three years at Wright State University and was promoted to associate head coach in 2012. He helped the Raiders earn two Horizon League tournament bids and an appearance in the 2011 championship game.

Korn spent the 2008‐10 seasons at the University of Denver and helped the program to two NCAA tournament bids. Korn's first collegiate position was as an assistant coach at Lafayette College in 2007. He helped the Leopards post a 10‐4‐6 record and reach the championship game of the Patriot League tournament.

A native of Tucson, Ariz., Korn graduated from the University of Arizona in 2007 with a bachelor's degree in business management. He earned a master's degree in organizational leadership from the University of Denver in 2010.
