The Empire 8 Conference is pleased to announce the elevation of Joe Venniro to Senior Associate Commissioner effective immediately.
"Joe has proven to be a vital leader in the conference operation and has earned this promotion," said Empire 8 Executive Director, Chuck Mitrano. "His dedication to the Empire 8 has allowed us to flourish as a conference in every aspect. He has earned the trust and respect of all administrators, coaches, and those he works with on behalf of the Empire 8. We are fortunate to have his outstanding service and skill set."
"I am incredibly honored to recieve this promotion to Senior Associate Commissioner," said Venniro. "I would like to thank Executive Director Chuck Mitrano and the Empire 8 President's Council for this tremendous honor and am grateful for the opportunity to grow professionally. I am excited to continue the Empire 8's ascent as one of the premier Division III athletic conferences in the nation, as our best days are ahead of us. It is an exciting time to be a member of the Empire 8."
Venniro will take on an expanded leadership role in governance and operations. He has worked in college athletics for 22 years and joined the conference in 2019 as Associate Commissioner after 15 years of servuce in sports information at RIT, including seven as the Executive Director of Communications. Since joining the E8 he has taken on more leadership roles including Director of Sport Committees, lead administrator of officiating for several sports, SAAC Director, NCAA Grant Administrator and is the conference's NCAA Women's Volleyball Regional Advisory Committee representative.
His promotion comes at a critical time for the Empire 8 as SUNY Brockport, SUNY Geneseo, and SUNY Poly will all be joining in the fall of 2024 boosting the conference to 12 full-time member institutions joining Alfred University, Elmira College, Hartwick College, Houghton University, Keuka College, Nazareth University, Russell Sage College, St. John Fisher University and Utica University.
