Asa Freeman Named Oklahoma Christian Volleyball Head Coach

OKLAHOMA CITY - After three years on the sideline as an assistant coach at Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma Christian has named Asa Freeman as head coach for the volleyball program, Athletic Director David Lynn announced.

"We are excited to welcome Asa Freeman as our Women's Volleyball coach. In the time I have gotten to know Coach Freeman, he is extremely organized and has a great passion for volleyball." Lynn said. "His long-standing connections in the local and regional volleyball communities will serve our program well. I look forward to seeing coach Freeman lead our program to new heights on and off the court."

Freeman, a graduate of Mid-America Christian University, has had coaching stops at the University of Central Oklahoma, Casady School, St. Stephen's Episcopal School, and St. Mark's School of Texas, and helped lead those teams to several postseasons including, the Southwest Preparatory Conference Champions in 2016 and 2018, Southwest Preparatory Conference Runner-Up in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2019.

Freeman also was a part of several USA Volleyball Junior National Championships, earning a silver medal in 2017 and bronze medals in 2019 and 2022.

"I am very excited and thankful for this opportunity that OC and Coach Lynn have given me. OC has felt like home for the last three years for my family and me." Freeman said. "I look forward to building a great culture and winning tradition here. I am honored and blessed to start my head coaching journey in the community my family and I have grown to love. Talons Up!"

Taking over as the interim head coach this season, Freeman coached several Eagles into top statistical performances in the Lone Star Conference, including Giorgia Turri finishing in the top ten in kills, points, and number one in aces. Camryn McGough was in the top ten in hitting percentage and joined Megan Rek in the top ten in blocks. And setter Lauren McClure finished in the top ten in assists.

Asked about his coaching style Freeman said, "As a coach, I've always tried to make it known what is expected of my players while encouraging the principle of teamwork. I was raised by a coach, and I always knew his expectations and that personal responsibility was big when it came to success. I try to always encourage any player of mine to strive to be their best on and off the court. Whether in their faith, friendships, schoolwork, and health. I always want to be someone they can respect or look up to but will always keep their integrity and confidence as a priority to ensure we are all making each other better. I can't expect something of my players that I wouldn't do myself."

The Eagles and new head coach will hit the ground running with recruiting in full swing and the spring season right around the corner. Stay tuned into the new era on Instagram, Twitter (X), and here at oceagles.com.
