SEATTLE --- The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) has announced the addition of the St. Mary's College Women's Indoor Track and Field team, beginning with the upcoming 2024 season. Located in Moraga, California and primarily affiliated with the West Coast Conference, St. Mary's was previously a member of the MPSF from 2004-17 when the conference sponsored women's lacrosse. The Gaels fielded their first-ever indoor track & field season last year, though as new members of the MPSF, will participate in a conference championship event for the first time.
"This is a huge boost for our team," said St. Mary's Head Coach Martin Kinsey, who became the Gaels' first-
ever full-time head coach in March, 2010 for the outdoor track and field team. "This will allow our athletes to
compete for true championships in track and make the indoor season have more meaning than just racing in a meet and shooting for a personal record. Joining MPSF for indoor aligns with our department-wide goals set this past September. It enhances the student-athlete experience, will help with recruiting in both cross country
and outdoor track, will help with retention, and set us up for greater success in all three sports."
The 31st edition of the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championship will be contested in The Podium in Spokane, Washington for the third year, February 25-26, 2024. The event is currently lined up for 16 teams--11 for women and five for men across 11 universities. Scheduled to join St. Mary's on the women's side are Cal State Fullerton, CSUN, Hawaii, Long Beach State, Pepperdine, Portland, San Francisco, UC Davis, UC Irvine, and UC Riverside. Eleven of the MPSF's 107 overall NCAA team titles have been produced in women's indoor track and field.
Since the 2021 hiring of MPSF Executive Director Foti Mellis, 26 teams, 13 schools, and three sports have been added across the entire conference.
The MPSF is elated to have Saint Mary's College and its Women's Indoor Track and Field team as the newest
member of our conference." said Mellis. "The Gaels will no doubt strengthen our championship field as we
continue to grow the number of participants competing in a world-class facility."
