Department of Athletics Announces Brendan Gorman to Lead Soaring Eagles Men’s Lacrosse Program

ELMIRA, N.Y. – Following a national search, Elmira College Director of Athletics Rhonda Faunce has announced the hiring of Brendan Gorman, Elmira's previous leader for two seasons (2018-20), as the head coach of the reinstituted men's lacrosse team. Gorman returns to the lacrosse coaching ranks following a three-season stint at Lycoming College following his time with the Soaring Eagles.

Gorman most previously built the Lycoming College men's lacrosse program back into contention after posting a seven-win improvement in his second year with the program, going from one win to eight. During his time with the Warriors, Gorman coached a MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year (Ben Franco), five all-conference selections, 19 MAC Academic Honor Roll selections, and one USILA Team of the Week selection.

Gorman has accumulated 110 victories in his first 14 seasons as head coach, leaving Babson in 2018 with a school-record 89 wins. Following Babson, Gorman spent two seasons here in Elmira, where the Soaring Eagles finished with the first winning record in 15 years prior to play being stopped due to the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.

Prior to Elmira, Gorman led NEWMAC institution Babson College, while  never finishing below .500 in his nine seasons as head coach. In addition, the Beavers finished in the top four in the conference, qualifying for the conference tournament every spring, including making five appearances in the championship game.

Gorman was awarded Pilgrim League Co-Coach of the Year in 2011, and was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year in 2015, after guiding Babson to its first regular-season conference title in 25 years. During his time at Babson, Gorman had over 50 all-conference selections. Gorman also coached defenseman Jack O'Donoghue to United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA)/Nike Honorable Mention All-America accolades in 2013, just the second Beaver ever to garner All-America honors.

A four-year letterwinner at Hartwick from 1999-2002, Gorman began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater in 2003 and spent one season as an assistant coach at Lycoming College for his first stint with the Warriors. Following his time at Lycoming, Gorman then joined the staff at the Rochester Institute of Technology, where the Tigers appeared in the 2006 NCAA Division III Championship. Additionally, he helped 13 student-athletes achieve All-America status.

Gorman graduated from Hartwick College in 2004 with a bachelor of arts in philosophy and is certified as a strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Associations (NSCA).
