Stephanie Schmidt resigns as head volleyball coach at Wheaton

Wheaton, Ill.Stephanie Schmidt has announced her resignation as head volleyball coach at Wheaton College, effective December 15.

Schmidt joined the Wheaton Athletics Department in 2017 and spent seven seasons in charge of the Thunder volleyball program. Additionally, she has overseen Wheaton's Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) the past two years.

Wheaton Athletics Director Mike Schauer says, "I'd like to thank Stephanie for her work as a member of the Wheaton Athletics Department. I wish her the best as she moves on to this next chapter."
In seven seasons as head coach at Wheaton, Schmidt's teams won 73 matches. In 2019, her third season with the Thunder, the squad recorded 17 wins – the best season in her 12-year coaching career.

Schmidt notes, "I'm immensely grateful to have had the opportunity to serve at Wheaton College for the past seven years. It's been a blessing and privilege to lead the volleyball program, and to support the athletics department by overseeing SAAC. Wheaton is a special place, and I'll miss interacting with student-athletes and my colleagues."

Schauer notes that a search to hire a new volleyball coach will begin immediately.
