Young Harris, GA  | Young Harris College Director of Athletics Jennifer Rushton announced the hiring of Marcy O'Connor as the Director of Tennis for the Mountain Lion Men's and Women's Tennis programs after Andrew Cobb resigned to pursue a business opportunity.
"I would like to thank Andrew for his hard work and dedication to YHC tennis. Our tennis programs are in a great position thanks to Andrew's leadership," said Rushton. "It is bittersweet to see him leave but we both agree the programs will be in great hands with Marcy O'Connor at the helm. Marcy has been part of championship programs and knows what it takes to succeed both on and off the court. I am excited to see the impact Marcy has on our programs."
O'Connor comes to the Enchanted Valley after serving as the Head Women's Coach at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA since 2022.
"Even though this was a tough decision to step away from Young Harris College Tennis, I know Marcy will come in and do a great job," added former Director of Tennis Andrew Cobb. "Marcy has a great energy about her that student-athletes will feed off of."
"I could not be more thrilled to join the Young Harris Tennis program. Coach Cobb has had great success with the teams, and I plan to continue their pursuit of excellence both on and off the court," said O'Connor. "It is an honor to lead the men's and women's tennis programs and I am thankful to the athletic department and administration for this opportunity. I cannot wait to join the team and represent the Mountain Lions!"
Prior to Agnes Scott, O'Connor served as an assistant men's and women's tennis coach at the University of North Georgia from 2017 to 2022. While at UNG, the team captured the ITA Regional Women's Doubles Championship (2017), Southeast Women's Regional Team Champions (2018 and 2019), and PBC Conference Women's Co- Regular Season Champions (2022). O'Connor also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant tennis coach for the men's and women's programs at Olivet Nazarene University, where she was named the 2017 NAIA Women's Assistant Coach of the Year for the East Region. O'Connor also coached professionally with the Universal Tennis Association (UTA) as an assistant tennis professional and at the Empowered Sports Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana under the same role.
In addition to coaching at the collegiate level since 2015, O'Connor attended Division I Purdue University Fort Wayne from 2011 to 2015 and graduated with a degree in Organizational Leadership and Supervision. She played for the Mastodon's women's tennis team and won the conference championship in 2013 and appeared in the NCAA D1 National Tournament that same year. O'Connor received her Master of Organizational Leadership from Olivet Nazarene University in 2017. She is also a USPTA Certified Tennis Professional after receiving her USPTA certification in 2018.
