Geneva Hires Fitz as Head Women’s Soccer Coach

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Geneva College Athletic Department is excited to announce the hiring of Micah Fitz as the new head women's soccer coach.  Fitz comes to Geneva from NCAA Division I Saint Francis University where he has served as the lead assistant for the women's soccer program for the past two seasons.

Fitz was a standout soccer player for Messiah College during his collegiate days.  He helped lead Messiah to three conference championships, and in 2017 he was a part of the NCAA Division III Men's Soccer National Championship team.  He was named a First Team MAC Commonwealth Selection in 2019 and graduated from Messiah with a degree in Psychology.

After graduating from Messiah, Fitz served for two years as a men's soccer graduate assistant for Division I Liberty University while pursuing his master's degree in Applied Industrial Organizational Psychology.  He also served during those years as the Mechanicsburg Middle School Boys Head Coach in 2020 and the Imago Dei Soccer Academy U23 Head Men's Soccer Coach in 2021.

In 2022, Fitz was hired as the lead assistant for the women's soccer program at Saint Francis where he was involved in scouting reports, recruitment, academic management, compliance and budgetary assignments.  He also had specific responsibilities for midfield and forward development for Saint Francis.

"First and foremost, I want to thank God for providing me with the amazing opportunity to work at Geneva College," said Fitz.  "I could not be more fortunate to work at a Christ-centered institution where faith is paramount.  I would like to express thanks to President Troup, Van Zanic, Gary Dunda and the entire search committee for trusting me with the opportunity to lead a great group of people and players.  We will take dead aim to ensure this group continues on a positive trajectory of seeking excellence both on and off the field while maintaining the basis of becoming a highly dominant force within the PAC."

Fitz will begin his responsibilities at the beginning of January, working with a strong group of returners for the women's soccer program while also focusing on recruitment during the spring semester.

"We are excited to welcome Micah to the Geneva family as our new women's soccer coach," said Director of Athletics Van Zanic.  "Micah has a wealth of coaching experience and was our clear choice to lead the women's program into the future.  I want to thank Coach Dunda for his work this past fall as the interim women's coach and for helping set our new coach up for immediate success.  The enthusiasm that Micah has shown, along with a clear knowledge of the game and of the Division III philosophy, will provide an immediate impact on the program and on Geneva College."

Fitz holds a US Soccer 'C' Coaching License, while also holding United Soccer Coaches (USC) Level 1 and 2 Goalkeeping Diplomas, a USC College Coach Certificate, and a USC Director of Coaching Diploma.

"I would also like to thank Sara Butler for providing me the opportunity to work at Saint Francis the past couple years," Fitz added.  "The student-athletes I was able to work with while there are a special group and I wish them the absolute best in the future.  And lastly, I would like to thank all my coaching colleagues and people around me who have helped develop me for this opportunity.  I am eagerly excited to get to work and cannot wait to see what the future holds for the Geneva women's soccer program.  Let's go Golden Tornadoes!"
