UWF Football To Play At Grand Valley State in 2024

This will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools

PENSACOLA, Fla. – The University of West Florida football program has announced a non-conference game with Grand Valley State to be played in the 2024 season.

The teams will meet on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024 in Allendale, Michigan at Lubbers Stadium. Kickoff will be at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.

"We are excited to add another strong Division 2 opponent on our 2024 schedule," UWF Associate Vice President for Athletics Dave Scott said. "This will be a great opportunity for our student-athletes and fans to experience one of the best college football environments in the country at any level."

"This game will allow two of the premier programs in the country to play one of the top match-ups during the 2024 season," UWF head coach Kaleb Nobles said. "I know our players will be fired up to compete against a very strong Grand Valley squad."

UWF is coming off a 2023 season that saw the Argos finish 8-4 while making the program's fifth NCAA Playoff appearance. UWF finished ranked 23rd in the final AFCA Division II Coaches Top 25 poll.

GV went 11-2 in 2023 and advanced to the national quarterfinals before losing to eventual national champion Harding. The Lakers have won four national titles and made 23 playoff appearances. They led the country with an average home attendance of 12,610 fans over eight dates in 2023.

This will be the third time since 2019 that UWF will play in the state of Michigan. The Argos have played at Ferris State twice in the national semifinals – defeating the Bulldogs in 2019 on their way to the program's first national title, and again in 2022 when Ferris won on its way to the championship.

UWF's first season of football was in 2016 and it made the playoffs in 2017, winning four road contests to reach the championship game. The program made the postseason again two years later and defeated four undefeated teams and three No. 1 seeds on their way to winning the 2019 national championship. The Argos have appeared in the playoffs each of the last three seasons, advancing to the national semifinals again in 2022.

Since 2019, UWF's 42 victories rank fifth among all Division 2 programs. Both UWF and Grand Valley have won 59 games since 2017, tied for seventh-most in the country. The Argos are 64-25 all-time and 37-13 on the road.
