Fullerton, Calif. — HIU Athletics continues to grow as the department announces its latest addition of sideline cheer. The team will be under the direction of our Head STUNT Coach, Kori Johnson, who brings decades of successful cheer coaching and advising. Coach Johnson will oversee the program and continue as the head coach of our STUNT team. She is currently recruiting an assistant coach to assist in the day-to-day coaching of the team.
"We are very excited to start this program in the fall of 2024 so we can support the University's athletic programs and engage with the community," says Johnson. "We hope to add energy to our athletic games and events on campus". The new sideline cheer program will add a fresh element to the game-day experience at Hope. "We're excited about bringing in these new athletes and creating an opportunity for them to outreach to our community as well as bring a new level of excitement at our athletic events.
As we continue to grow our athletic programs here at HIU, adding sideline cheer just makes sense for us with the incredible athlete interest in our STUNT and Competitive dance programs. There are so many amazing athletes who want to continue their cheer career, and we have some of the best small college athletic sports teams here at HIU, that we would like to increase on our game day experience that the fans get to enjoy, and that the athletes get to play in front of. Sideline cheer is going to give our athletic teams the chance to play with a dynamic energy level with their fans.
"We are so excited to bring sideline cheerleading to Hope International University and provide another opportunity for female athletes to participate in the sport they love at the collegiate level and receive an athletic scholarship, "The main purpose of our cheerleading team will be to support many of the athletic programs at Hope. We are thrilled to be able to have more support at our athletic events for each team.
"The cheerleading team will also be the face of HIU at many community events, campus events, and fundraisers. We can't wait to see this team engage with our fans and really show them what being a part of the Royal family is all about!"
