Jane Becker resigns as Augsburg volleyball coach

Jane BeckerMINNEAPOLIS -- Jane Becker, who guided the Augsburg University volleyball team back to prominence in both conference and national play, is resigning after 14 seasons as head coach, the university announced on Thursday.
 
In 13 competitive seasons at Augsburg (2010-22), Becker compiled a 239-119 (.668) overall record, including an 86-46 (.652) record in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. Becker took a leave of absence during the 2023 season, with assistant coach Colleen (Ourada) Enrico '14 serving as interim head coach. Including her first three seasons coaching at Luther College (Iowa, 2007-09), Becker has a 299-161 (.650) collegiate coaching record.
 
"I want to thank Athletic Director Jeff Swenson, former Assistant Athletic Director Marilyn Pearson Florian, and President Pribbenow for hiring me nearly 15 years ago," Becker said. "As the head volleyball coach, I have been fortunate to work for and alongside the most driven, supportive, and authentic group of people. There are so many great volleyball memories and athletic achievements that are worth noting. Still, the relationships with the student-athletes, alums, assistant coaches, Augsburg co-workers, and MIAC colleagues are what I will cherish forever."
 
Becker's Auggies won or shared the MIAC regular-season title three times (2013, 2014, 2016) and reached the NCAA Division III national tournament four times (2013, 2014, 2018, 2019). The Auggies reached the MIAC postseason playoffs nine times in Becker's 13 competitive seasons.
 
Becker earned MIAC Coach of the Year honors in the 2013, 2014 and 2016 seasons, and was named American Volleyball Coaches Association Regional Coach of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. She also earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year honors at Luther in 2009.

She will always be an Auggie, through and through."
 
Over the last 14 seasons, Augsburg's volleyball program has had 33 All-MIAC (31) and All-MIAC Honorable Mention (2) selections, 17 AVCA All-Region (14) and All-Region Honorable Mention (3) selections, and 14 AVCA All-America (8) and All-America Honorable Mention (6) selections.
 
Becker had three multiple All-American selections in her coaching tenure at Augsburg; Ashley Peper '16 earned three All-American honors, while Enrico and Taylor Linn '18 earned All-American honors twice each. Libero Macey Terhell '18 earned MIAC Defensive Player of the Year honors in both 2016 and 2017.
 
Becker developed a strong relationship with Auggie volleyball alumnae through the formation of the team's Match Point Club, and led the efforts for a major upgrade of the volleyball team's locker room facilities in Si Melby Hall.
 
Academically, Augsburg volleyball players earned 56 Academic All-MIAC honors from 2010 to 2022, and earned AVCA Team Academic Award honors five times.
 
Jane Becker is surrounded by her Augsburg volleyball team after winning her 200th match as Augsburg head coach.Becker also served as the director of community service and engagement for the Augsburg athletic department, linking Auggie teams with community groups and organizations for service opportunities. She also led her Auggie volleyball teams on a pair of international competition and service trips.
 
"I would have never expected this job to turn into the second family that it has; I will forever miss my daily interactions as an Auggie, but I will always support and cheer for this athletic department and university. I am excited to support the new head volleyball coach and know that this program will continue to succeed," Becker said.
 
As a setter at the University of St. Thomas, Becker (formerly Gibbs) earned AVCA Division III All-American honors in both 2002 and 2003, while earning All-MIAC honors all four years (2000-03). The MIAC Player of the Year in 2003, Becker played on teams that won MIAC regular-season titles in 2002 and 2003, and finished 97-31 in her career.
 
After graduating from St. Thomas in 2004, Becker served as an assistant coach at Division I Gardner-Webb (N.C.) in the 2004 and 2005 seasons, and was an assistant coach at Wisconsin-River Falls in 2006. She earned her bachelor's degree from St. Thomas in 2004, and her master's degree from Gardner-Webb in 2006.
