Emporia State head coach Bryan Sailer (left) consoles Jillian Patton after the conclusion of the Hornets’ 2-1 overtime loss to Minnesota State-Mankato in Edmond, Oklahoma in 2018.

Bryan Sailer is not returning at the Emporia State women’s soccer coach, ESU Vice President and Director of Athletics David Spafford announced Friday evening.

The announcement comes a week after sanctions against the team affecting postseason play were made public, due to unspecified violations to policies and the student code of conduct.

Sailer was put on administrative leave and did not accompany the Hornets to the NCAA Tournament last week.

“As we continue to evolve ESU Athletics into a Top 25 program in the country, we are committed to performing at the highest caliber in every aspect of our program,” Spafford said.

Sailer joined ESU in April 2011 after spending four years as the women’s coach at Barton County Community College. He compiled a 59-23-2 record at Barton County and was named the 2008 Jayhawk Conference Coach of the Year.

Chloe Marquez will continue as interim head coach and a national search will begin immediately to find the next permanent head coach.
