KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State Director of Athletics Milton Overton has accepted the resignation of women's soccer head coach Benji Walton, effective December 22.

"I'd like to thank Benji Walton for his dedication to delivering a championship-level experience for our student-athletes and leading a culture of high-achievement academically, athletically, and in our community," said Overton. "I respect and support his decision, and wish he and his family success in their next journey."

Walton led the program for eight seasons and finished with a 69-61-20 record. He led KSU to three-consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference Championship appearances from 2019-21, and his teams finished in the top-half of the conference in every season but one. His Owls averaged eight postseason athletic or academic honors each year, totaling 64 under his leadership.

"It has been my absolute joy and privilege to have been able to call myself the head coach of Kennesaw State women's soccer for the past eight years," said Walton. "The sport of soccer has molded me into who I am today, and I'll forever be grateful to all the wonderful people that I had the opportunity to share a journey with over the past 20 years of my coaching career."

In his 18 seasons as a head coach, Walton has compiled an impressive 166-139-31 record.

"As I change course and pursue a new direction in my professional career, I want to pause and personally thank all of my players and coaches for whom I have had the pleasure of working with across four different universities," Walton continued. "It's the relationships with them that I will always cherish the most and will forever hold a special place in my heart. I personally want to think Milton Overton and Tamica Smith Jones for their tremendous support and wish the entire KSU Athletic Department nothing but the absolute best."

Women's soccer program administrator and Chief Operating Officer Tamica Smith Jones has tabbed Chris Cahill as Acting Head Coach.

"Coach Walton has been an integral part of our program, contributing his expertise, passion, and unwavering commitment to the success and development of our student-athletes," said Smith Jones. "We will begin a national search to find the next leader of our program to guide us into a new chapter as members of Conference USA."
