CAU Announces Daisha Reed as New Head Women's Tennis Coach

ATLANTA, Ga. – Clark Atlanta University Dr. Jerel Drew of Daisha Reed as the new head coach of the women's tennis program on Tuesday, November 21, 2023.

"We're excited about having Coach Daisha lead our women's tennis program," said Dr. Jerel Drew on the newest hire.

Coach Daisha's journey began as a student-athlete in Little Rock, Arkansas where she helped to lead her high school basketball team to win the first state championship in school history and graduated Top 10 in her class with a 4.0 GPA. She then attended HBCU Alcorn State University, where she earned a full scholarship to play basketball.

During her time there from 1997 - 2001, she received several accolades, including the SWAC Rookie of the Year, SWAC All-Rookie Team, and All-Tournament Team while also leading the conference in three-point field goal percentage. Thanks to her contribution, Coach Daisha helped her team to achieve multiple regular season and conference championships and a historic first appearance for the women's program in the NCAA tournament.

After her successful basketball career, Coach Daisha's passion for sports led her to tennis. She began playing in the U.S. Virgin Islands and won her very first doubles tournament in 2003. Currently, she plays for a Division Championship team out of the South Fulton Tennis Center and continues to compete in ALTA and USTA matches.

With a 3.6 GPA, Coach Daisha graduated from Clayton State University in 2005 and began working as an educator and tennis instructor. Almost two decades later, Coach Daisha continues to make an impact working with young people in the tennis profession. Her passion for the sport has led her to develop a unique coaching style that focuses on building highly skilled, confident, self-aware athletes. Her expertise in the field has enabled her to help many young players reach their full potential on and off the court. Coach Daisha's approach to coaching is centered on creating a positive and supportive environment that encourages constant growth and development.

She works closely with her athletes to identify their strengths and weaknesses and tailors her coaching to meet their individual needs. Her goal is to help each player develop a deep understanding of themselves, the game and to instill in them a strong sense of self and love for tennis that will last a lifetime.

Coach Daisha currently runs her non-profit organization, Kidz & Tennis Rule Community Tennis Association where her mission is to provide access to tennis programs and coaching, while also, empowering at-risk youth with the tools they need to succeed both on and off the court.

Coach Daisha is honored to be a part of the CAU Family!
