ROME, Ga. — Shorter University is thrilled to introduce the newest addition to our athletic department, Coach Charles Collings, who will be taking the helm as the Men's and Women's Golf Coach. Hailing from Jacksonville, Florida, Charles brings a wealth of playing experience, a passion for the game, and a commitment to fostering both academic and athletic excellence among our student-athletes.
Born to Zane and Kathy Collings, with a sister named Emily, Charles learned the values of hard work and perseverance early on. These qualities have been the foundation of his success on and off the golf course.
During his college career, Charles showcased his skills and leadership at various institutions, leaving an indelible mark on the golfing community. He began his collegiate journey at Flagler College. In 2020, Charles transferred to Shorter University to continue his academic and athletic pursuits, graduating with distinction and contributing significantly to the university's golf program.
Charles began pursuing his graduate degree in 2022 while continuing to play golf at Winthrop University, where he is currently on track to complete his Master's of Science in Sport Administration. His academic journey is a testament to his commitment for combining a passion for golf with a dedication to academics.
Charles Collings has not only excelled in the classroom but has also left an indelible mark on the golf course. His impressive list of accolades includes being a part of the GSC All-Academic Team for the 2020-2021 academic year. His outstanding performances have resulted in seven Top 10 finishes throughout his collegiate career, contributing significantly to the success of his teams.
One of the defining moments in Charles' career was the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championship, where he played a role in securing the victory for his team. This championship win underscored Charles' ability to thrive under pressure and solidified his reputation as a player.
In recent months, Charles Collings has further honed his coaching acumen, serving as a graduate assistant at Winthrop University. This experience has equipped him with valuable insights and a fresh perspective that he brings to Shorter University as our new head golf coach.
