Webb to Assume Interim Coaching Duties for Tennis Programs

HOUGHTON, N.Y. – Houghton Director of Athletics Matthew Webb will serve as interim head coach for the men's and women's tennis programs after three-year Head Coach Zach Shilvock announced his resignation.

Webb will lead the programs through the spring season. At that time the University will conduct a national search for a new coach. Assistant Coach Mark Baker will continue to help lead the program by taking on some additional responsibility as the primary instructor on the court as well as oversee the recruiting efforts for the program.

"I want to thank Zach for his years of investment in our program, both as a student-athlete and more recently on our coaching staff," said Webb. "It has been a pleasure to watch him grow and mature into a strong coach, and we wish him well in his new endeavors."

Shilvock, who stepped away to pursue some tennis opportunities elsewhere, served for one season as an assistant before taking the reins of the programs in May 2021.

His men's program produced an overall record of 27-20, including a 16-0 mark in the E8, a conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance in 2023, and a conference championship appearance in 2022. He was an assistant in 2021 when Houghton won its first E8 title and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time. His women's program was 12-33 (8-11 in the E8) and advanced to two E8 Tournaments (fall of 2021 and 2022).

Dr. Webb had served in a similar role for the programs in the spring of 2018, helping the men's team to an 11-5 record (7-1 in the E8) and an E8 Semifinal appearance. He was named E8 Men's Tennis Coach of the Year following the season.
