Term-in-Ology: Hosting a Reception for Graduating Student-Athletes and their Families
With the possibility (pending local, state, and CDC health guidelines) that graduation commencements are being conducted on NCAA campuses across the country in the coming weeks, it’s worth noting that an NCAA school may host a reception with reasonable food and drinks and provide those to the family members of a student-athlete. In addition to a graduation reception, NCAA benefit rules permit reasonable food and drinks to be provided to student-athletes’ family members for other special events such as educational meetings or celebratory events like a senior night recognition at a last home game.
Athletics Veritas is presented for information purposes only and should not be considered advice or counsel on NCAA compliance matters. For guidance on NCAA rules and processes, always consult your university’s athletics compliance office, conference office, and/or the NCAA.
